We wandered into The Crows Nest hungry and grumpy, with a small child on the verge of emotional collapse. We were taken care of immediately with a smile. But by none that is actually why I’m writing this review, yes the atmosphere is cozy and friendly.
But THE FOOD is absolutely bonkers delicious! The mussels were amazing, served in a bowl of white wine and butter. The fish cake melted the last bit of frustration I was feeling right away. It is simply the best fish cake I’ve ever eaten. And the fish and chips, I don’t know how they were able to get fish so perfectly delicate and yet have the batter so perfectly crunchy. The hand-cut chips were mostly sacrificed to the god of rage to prevent further meltdown, but the four or five I did eat were beautifully crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
This place is truly amazing. Arguably the best food we’ve eaten in Ireland. They deserve your business and they will make sure you...
Read moreThe first thing of note is that this restaurant does not have a website or any way to book besides calling. Please owners, can you get one. It helps as I live abroad and visit frequently. So I called and booked in with my sister, mum and aunt. As we entered the restaurant there was very noticeable large cobwebs on the entrance door. I worried that attention to detail might be an issue here. It was. I ordered the calamari rings for a starter. They were super nice. Two of us had fish and chips. The Fish was excellent but the chips were dry. My aunt had the chicken and she was happy enough. My mum had the hake and it was too spicy for her. The wine was nice (A Sicilian Grillo). The one big bonus was that when the bill came I didn't feel mugged. It was reasonable. I always judge a restaurant as to whether I would go back or not. I have to admit, I wouldn't rush back here. The staff were very...
Read moreMyself & my husband visited The Sparrow’s Nest on Sunday for my 50th birthday. We were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely window seat. The food was delicious and the recommended wine was too. The staff were knowledgable, extremely friendly and they accommodated an off menu main option for me, nothing was too much trouble. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised, as it was only €97 for 2 starters, mains, 1 dessert, 2 glasses of wine and a beer. I cannot recommend The Sparrow’s Nest highly enough, the food, staff and atmosphere are wonderful. It is well worth a visit and we will definitively be...
