After visiting the Beyond the Trees Avondale, we were looking for some vegan eats and with the help of a quick Google search, found Brass Fox - Wicklow was only a short 20 minute drive, so off we went to dinner. Brass Fox has a full separate vegan menu with a large variety of items to choose from, pizza, burgers, tacos, sides, and dessert. The location was beautiful, colorful building right off the River Vartry, lovely place to take a walk before or after dinner! The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty cool, it was a fun place to eat and we really appreciated the outdoor seating. Both Sandi and I enjoyed our food, everything was very tasty overall. The "chicken wings" didn't resemble wings in any way, I believe they were just chicken nuggets but I could be mistaken. The sauce they used was really tasty so the dish overall was a win. Our chicken tacos were good, three tacos filled with chicken goujan, rocket, house made salsa, crispy onion, chili and basil pesto. The best way I can describe the goujan is akin to a breaded chicken patty cut into equal strips. All of the components came together really way to make three delicious and filling tacos. Their vegan Oreo Biscoff Sundae was *chefs kiss*. If you're driving through the Wicklow area, definitely make some time to drop by and enjoy all the vegan goodness the Brass Fox has to offer.

I have changed my very positive reviews... Prices here are getting stupid.... 28 euro for a steak sandwich... A steak sandwich in most other places is budget option like a burger... But the straw that broke it was 2.95 for a dash of lime cordial.... WOW. Something that cost literally cents. I'm all for changing it a business after all. But particularly when eating charging 3 euro for a dash of lime is actually insulting. I won't be back until they cop on with the stupid price gouging... RE reply . Ok if that the way you want to serve a steak sandwich thats your choice but in most places steak sandwich is a cheaper option , but going back to the Pint of cordial ... I actually complained at the time because it wasnt a pint, it was a dash of lime in water . I said it at the time to the bar maid and she agreed with me but said her hand were tied and also admitted this get complained about a lot and said it was embarrasing ... I just think it petty when people are paying good money and I will admit your food is very good that you have to extract every last cent for something lets face it cost little to nothing .

I had an hour to wait so popped in for a quick bite. Ordered the seafood chowder which is described as having fresh seafood and homemade brown bread. As you can see from the photo I got a bowl full of cheap and rubbery crab sticks - there were some mussels and tiny flakes of a smoked fish but nothing in the fresh seafood category that I was expecting. I had asked before ordering if it was fresh and was assured it was made to order!! Also the homemade bread was not homemade and was also toasted which to me feels of being freshened up!! I did make my complaint known at the time but the response was just that he would pass my comment to the kitchen. All in all, I was very disappointed, certainly the worst chowder I’ve ever eaten and when I see it on a menu, I normally go for it … if I could give Zero stars I would as twelve Euro fifty is a rip off. I should have left and went elsewhere in hindsight… Edit: I’ve read some other reviews on the chowder and see that the crab sticks were complained about by others but are still being used. Note to chef - crab sticks ARE NOT crab claws!!!

*Pros: Food is nice. Good location. I like this place but... *Cons: Who appears to be the bar manager, he is very rude and off-putting. A few times recently i have suggested we go elsewhere instead of the Brass Fox as I don't wish to encounter his rude attitude. He needs customer service training. The other staff were all lovely, its this one manager that is extremely off-putting and ruins the experience. If i was the owner of The Brass Fox i certainly would not want a staff member scaring customers away. Happy customers return and that means more income. Something to keep in mind.

edit: The manager/owners response is unhinged. Based on how defensive it is i can only assume its the floor manager replying. I see their floor manager has been reviewed poorly in multiple reviews. He has a major attitude problem that a lot of PAYING customers have been put off by. Don't forget this is a service people are paying for. People aren't spending their hard earned cash out to be treated like a child. Saying "if it would make me happier" to email them...like what? Anytime they get a low review they blast the reviewer as a liar asking if it is the right place. When on earth has someone left a review for the wrong place? Telling people how they're opinions and experiences are wrong as the brass fox have won awards. Like this is the literal worst way to respond to feedback. It's so poor it almost seems like a joke.. The word defensive doesn't even cover it. To say 'bad reviews hurt our business' is so repulsive. It's like a threat almost. It is within peoples right to leave a review. Google reviews exist for a reason. Your nasty response proves my point. Thomas /the manager or whoever is replying to these reviews needs so major customer service training. Changing from 3 to a 1 star after seeing...

Edit following your answer: I appreciate your reply. Just to clarify: we came twice for the quiz time so on Friday night so indeed expected the pints to be €5 as advertised. When I asked for the French sparkling wine, I asked for a glass and showed it on the wine menu, I received a bottle of prosecco instead and two staff told me they had no idea what it was/hadn't had it.

Original review: Asked for a glass of French sparkling wine, got a Prosecco. I'm fine with it, but it's not what I ordered, and it's misleading. No staff knew that they were offering French sparkling wine, if you don't have it anymore just update the menu.

Asked for mayonnaise, and was charged for it without knowing when I paid the bill. When I told the manager that nobody told me it was not free, he didn't bother removing it from the bill. Unless you specify it, everyone expects ketchup and mayo to be coming for free with fries!

Pizzas are extremely expensive, all the food here actually is.

I expected pints to be €5 on Friday evening, as it was stated on the TV screen, and it wasn't the case, I was charged full price for the one I got. There again, you have to ask the price of what you want beforehand.

The (I assume) manager was very pushy, coming regularly to our table to make us order more to drink. We could feel his energy was not welcoming at all.

Most of the staff (especially the ladies) who served us at the bar were very nice and helpful. However, following those different unpleasant experiences, there is something about this place, in terms of customer service and especially transparency, I really feel...

I work in the food industry myself so I don’t give this review lightly … I would have went to the brass fox at least once or twice a month with family and friends… and I am very disappointed to say that it has gone so downhill with its rude staff and extremely rude management! I went there last week with my family and each and everyone of us was so disappointed about how we were treated by the staff. Rude is an understatement of how one staff member spoke to us. When I approached management with my concerns I was blown off and given our bill. I rang to book a table and was told to come ahead they weren’t busy and not taking bookings… when we got there the place was packed and we were sat at the back of the restaurant where a door was used every minute or two by staff members and it slammed so loud with a bang.. When I asked to be seated somewhere else due to a family member who suffers bad with migraines I was told by 3 other tables of people who interrupted to say they have already complained about this that the staff didn’t seam to care. I was blown off and told there was nothing they could do. We order dips and drinks so many times because they staff kept “forgetting” to bring it out. I had a 2 year old with me who I had to request a high chair for 3 times. When we got our bill there was extra things added on that we didn’t order or get which we got rectified. When we were leaving a rude staff member came up to us to make a point in saying it wasn’t his problem which I was unbelievably shocked and disgusted about. The service here was disgraceful and very...
