I was there with a group of friends meeting our friend who has not long had a baby. There was slightly too many of us for the table we were sat at and we moved to a bigger table. The blonde older lady who should definitely not be working in hospitality barked at us if we had a reservation, we said no she barked at us again well you can’t sit here it’s reserved. We had no problem moving, there was a lovely girl with her and she apologised that she had to move us while the horrible blond woman stormed off. We moved and and the lovely girl with the black hair came over and took our order. Behind her every time the woman with the blonde hair walked past she looked over at the table giving dirty looks, now bare in mind we were all catching up with our friend getting cuddles with her new baby and she was giving us dirty looks and shaking her head practically the whole time we where there. It made us feel quite uncomfortable. She then brought out drinks to the table and grunted at us when putting the drinks on the table.
We got our food which was fine and served by the nice girl with the black hair.
When it was time for us to leave to our misfortune the same older blond lady was at the till and we were splitting the bill. I was the second last person to pay and the last person was at the end of the queue as she was putting out friends baby back in the pram. I said to the blonde lady what I had and she said did you not get the breakfast sandwich or something like that, I said no I got waffles. She then shouted to the my friend who was 3 people behind me, are you going to pay for your order, totally ignoring me like she was intentionally calling out my friend as if she was going to run out without paying. My friend was mortified and said sorry when she shouted at her and asked did she want her to jump the queue in front of these other people. The blonde lady barked again well you have to pay your part of the table. When it came to my turn I actually couldn’t even look the woman in the eye I was so embarrassed and angry at the way she spoke to us.
We spent well over 150 euro between us and none of us would set foot in the place again. We all work in the same place and we have been here before in large groups spending 100s for occasions. Some of the other women in the office do go more regularly. Well I can tell you that no one in our office will be going back there again after we have told them all how horrific we were treated in there.
That blonde woman should not be working with the public! Do not have her near customers at all or you will not have any...
Read moreReview – Filthy place and completely unprofessional staff
My experience here was absolutely disappointing and honestly disgusting. From the moment we walked in, no one bothered to greet us or show us to a table. We had to seat ourselves, and even then, the table was wet, dirty, and obviously not cleaned. Right next to us, another table had a filthy napkin left on it – just looking at it was enough to make you nauseous.
Cleanliness is non-existent. The tables were soaked, damaged, and sticky, and the chairs were so dirty it was nearly impossible to sit on them without feeling sick. The overall state of the place makes it feel more like an abandoned space than a functioning restaurant.
The staff was totally unprepared and careless. We didn’t have napkins, salt, or pepper on the table. No one came to check on us or ask if we needed anything. Soup was brought to us without spoons – a basic oversight they didn’t even rush to fix. We ordered fries, and they simply never arrived. No explanation, no apology. Condiments like ketchup or mayo weren’t offered at all.
As for drinks – we were served Coca-Cola in a beer jar, and the waiter casually said it was “for beer.” Completely inappropriate and bizarre.
The overall atmosphere? Filth, indifference, and a total lack of professionalism. This is not just a place I wouldn’t recommend – it’s one that should seriously reconsider whether it’s fit to operate. We left with a terrible impression – and not because of the food, but because of everything...
Read moreI have never felt such rage in a café. Hook & Ladder, Waterford — you owe me €8.50 and emotional damages.
I ordered a slice of apple pie, expecting something warm, comforting, and vaguely life-affirming. What I got was a cold slab of sadness. It arrived at my table with all the enthusiasm of a corpse. I poked it — nothing. Not a hint of warmth. I’ve held refrigerated butter that felt more alive.
Then came the custard. If you can even call it that. A dribble. A microscopic, stingy splash from a carton, like they were personally offended I asked for it. And to top it off — a sad squirt of canned cream, which instantly collapsed on itself, as if even it couldn’t bear to be part of this disgrace.
And don’t even get me started on the noise. It was like sitting inside a concrete mixer full of toddlers and espresso machines. I could feel my blood pressure rising with every screech of the coffee grinder. I wasn’t eating dessert — I was enduring psychological warfare.
€8.50. For what? For a slice of misery colder than a landlord’s heart. For a drizzle of custard that wouldn’t satisfy a mouse. Hook & Ladder, I don’t know who hurt you, but please stop taking it out on...
