Imperial Garden — Restaurant in Waterford

I have dined at this restaurant twice before, and the experience was good, so I decided to order takeaway this time. When I called to place my order, I asked to speak with a Chinese-speaking staff. I ordered a lamb dish and asked whether prawn crackers were included (as they were when dining in). She first said no, then later said, “I can give them to you,” and told me the total was €22. I understood that to mean the crackers were included as a complimentary item.

However, when my friend picked up the order, the receipt showed lamb + prawn crackers for €19, with the crackers charged separately at €3. When I called to ask why, they said “free crackers only for orders over €20,” then changed it to “over €22.” To this day, I still don’t know which is correct — the communication was very confusing and unclear.

During the call, a male manager took over and immediately started arguing. He spoke very aggressive, “I only charged you €19; if you want them free, pay €22 — I even gave you a discount.” When I said it was unreasonable and that I would file a complaint if they didn’t refund the €3, he repeatedly shouted, “I don’t care! I don’t care! I don’t care!” He made no attempt to resolve the issue and only escalated the conflict with his aggressive attitude.

Later, another female staff spoke politely, explained the policy, and told us to come to the restaurant for the refund. We returned the crackers and received the €3 back.

However, this whole experience revealed: • The manager’s rude attitude and highly unprofessional problem-solving; • Poor internal communication and unclear policies.

I had high hopes for this place, but it was a disaster from the start. The atmosphere was chaotic, with multiple groups getting rowdy and drinking excessively. The lights were even turned off so everyone could sing “Happy Birthday” – multiple times! It felt like a college party, not a restaurant.

The service was just as bad. The waitstaff were uninterested, acting like we were an inconvenience rather than customers paying money to be there. No one bothered to check on us once after dropping off our food, which, by the way, was awful.

The portions were laughably small, and the food quality was shockingly low. The won ton soup was so peppery it was practically inedible, and the rest of the dishes tasted like cheap, frozen meals. I could have done better with a freezer aisle run at Tesco.

This was hands-down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Save your money and go elsewhere – there’s nothing worth coming...

From the time we walked we were a party of 6 adults staring in the viking Hotel the staff recommended it to us the restaurant the staff were amazing and relaxed and friendly and were look after my father and mother inlaw brilliant with us the food was amazing there so much food we were overwhelmed by the amount of food and the quality was fantastic the staff were having fun with everyone and the place was spectacular and spotless clean you could not ask for a better Chinese restaurant in waterford just 6 minutes Away I'd recommend mend it everyone to try it you won't be disappointed with experience i would give it 10/ 10 for excellent staff 10/10 for fantastic food 10/10 restaurant for the experience if there were more stars 🌟 I would have gave the restaurant all the stars 🌟 From linda toner From ...
