This evening, at 5:30 pm on a quiet Sunday, I brought my 16-year-old son and three of his friends to play a game of pool to celebrate his birthday. We had just done a day of bowling and go-cart racing so I wanted them to wind down and have a chat. The place was practically empty - just a couple and two older gentlemen. However, when my son went to get change from the bar, the barman informed him that he needed to be 21 to play pool???
I stepped in and asked "do you have to be over 18 to play pool?" The barman insisted that was the rule. Frustrated and bewildered, we left.
I immediately rang the Mansion House next door to ask if the same rule applied there. The barman on the phone actually laughed and said, “Of course not—bring them in, as long as they’re not drinking!”
