I recently had a planned meet-up at GG's Pub in Clonakilty, where I've been residing for the past 9 months. As a Spanish national, I moved here with the intention of immersing myself in the English language and culture while continuing my work as a financial advisor for my business in Spain. I am a person who values enjoys the occasional quality drink, and strives to maintain a polite demeanor.
I was deeply disappointed by the treatment I received at the entrance when I approached the bouncer. Despite living in Clonakilty and actively participating in the local community, I was denied entry with the explanation that it was restricted to "only the local people." This experience not only affected my evening but also caused me to miss a scheduled date with someone, which is quite disheartening.
As someone who appreciates and respects the establishments I visit, I find it disconcerting that such discriminatory practices continue to persist. Denying entry based on someone's place of origin is not only unfair but also goes against the principles of inclusivity and equality that should be upheld by all businesses. It is my understanding that such practices are not only morally wrong but also violate the guidelines set by organizations like the IHREC (Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission).
I firmly believe that it is essential for establishments like GG's Pub to treat all patrons fairly, regardless of their background, and to provide a welcoming environment for everyone. By doing so, they not only promote inclusivity but also foster positive experiences that benefit both the local community and visitors alike.
Given the gravity of this situation, I am considering filing a complaint with the IHREC to address the violation of my rights. I hope that my experience serves as a catalyst for GG's Pub to reevaluate their policies and practices, and take appropriate steps to ensure they adhere to the principles of inclusivity...
