We’re locals, been to a lot of great Sushi places in Herzliya, and had a VERY embarrassing and bad experience here. The sushi was very good (yet overly priced), the waitress was sweet, but What a HORRIBLE management. Never again.
1st, we came in, 5 adults, following an email one of us got; free desert for your birthday. We ordered a couple of dishes; some sushi, noodles and deserts. The fish was fresh, but the portions tiny. The noodles were great, but extremely spicy. When asked to make it a little less spicy, the kitchen returned the dish saying it’s “impossible”. Ok. We ordered another dish. The waitress - who was very welcoming and professional, tried her best, but then we got to the last dish. It was ok. Tiny, yet again, not horrible. The horrible part was the bill. We showed the email promo to the waitress, but she needed a card. 2 of us her member cards there (not since last night tho.. we cancelled them), none of us had the card on. We tried a few phone numbers (been their members since 2012), but couldn’t get a hold of our older number. Any other manager, at this point, would go ahead and use the email promo. But this one didn’t. To add up to this weird experience, we were never greeted walking out.
Kyoto, as members of your community for the past 6 years, sorry - not sorry. There’s plenty of incredible sushi places around. We...
Read moreTL;DR good sushi but very expensive
We Went to Kyoto on a Saturday night with another couple to celebrate a joint birthday.
The place was full. They have a smoking sitting area that is located at the entrance, not a good place if you are trying to avoid it.
We ordered 2 Agedashi tofu - good 2 Lychee Scandal Cocktails - nice Spicy salmon and avocado cone - good
And 8 of the special rolls: Crunchy spicy tuna roll Lugas roll Saimon roll Rainbow roll
and 4 other rolls I can't remember
All of them were very good.
For desert we took 2 pistachio desserts that were with a dominant lemon flavor more than a pistachio flavor but I liked it
We ended up with a check of 1050 nis tip inclusive which is expensive for what we got. It always was an expensive restaurant but a decade ago it was one of the best sushi places in Israel, the sushi level went up all around and now you can find better sushi for less money.

Read moreWhile I want to give Kyoto 5 stars for food I find the menu to potentially be too large and missing out on focused and complete dishes. For example the chicken katsu is not served with tonkatsu sauce, but teriyaki which and/or spicy mayo which is fine. I'd rather have tonkatsu.
Many of the dishes are sweeter than I would expect. Which I believe is more of the local expectation or taste as I've found this to be similar at other places. I will update as I explore the menu.
The sushi rice is hit and miss. Sometimes it's just old and dry. Also the hamachi once was maybe not the sweetest again being extra critical here. The cuts are weird at times, hard to explain, but thin and longer than I am accustomed to.
Kyoto is still a top choice. I wish they would consider cutting 20% of the menu and considering how to make the...
