I recently visited Peking Duck in Tel Aviv expecting a cozy Chinese meal, and while the atmosphere was indeed warm and the staff friendly and knowledgeable, the overall experience left a lot to be desired—especially when it came to price transparency and food quality.
We ordered the oyster beef with broccoli, two beef bao, hot pot, and lemonade. The oyster beef and bao were decent, but things quickly went downhill from there.
The hot pot was the main issue—both in execution and cost. It was presented in a double wok setup on a basic camp stove right at the table, boiling away on a regular surface with no safety measures. It honestly felt unsafe. There were no clear explanations from the staff on what exactly we were being charged for. The menu simply said "35 shekels per person," but offered no detail—and no one clarified. By the end of the meal, we were blindsided with a 600-shekel bill for just three people.
As a local (not a tourist), I found this pricing shocking and misleading. On top of that, the hot pot itself was disappointing: the calamari had a bad taste and the beef was so tough it was hard to chew. To make matters worse, the restaurant had a serious fly problem, which made it hard to enjoy anything.
In short, while the vibe was cozy and the staff kind, the experience overall felt overpriced, poorly executed, and not worth repeating. I wouldn’t recommend this place—especially to locals looking for good value and clear...
Read moreWe celebrated our daughter’s 12th birthday with a family dinner at this Chinese restaurant – trying to make up for the trip to China she dreamed of but couldn’t take. It was the only place around that looked remotely authentic, and honestly, we only chose it because there were no better options (the reviews are so awful). To our surprise, it was a fantastic experience. The restaurant was quite full, with lots of Asian guests that added to the "travel abroad" vibe. One beautiful redheaded waitress managed the whole place with a calm smile, incredible patience, and kindness – switching languages like a pro at every table. Just watching her felt like a performance. The food was great – big, tasty portions – and the sweet Chinese chef made sure to check on each table, adding to the warm, homey feeling. We left with full hearts and full...
Read moreOrdered takeout from here twice in one week because it was so delicious! As a Jersey girl I always crave the type of Chinese food we have in the US and this is the first time I’ve had it here in Israel since moving here in August. I ordered the So-Jai pork for an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked and the sauce was very nice. I ordered the vegetables (bok choy and mushrooms as well as the green beans) and they were cooked to perfection and weren’t over-seasoned. The sweet and sour chicken I ordered the first time and it was sensational without being too spicy and came with ample sauce for the rice. The second time I ordered I had the oyster sauce chicken and the noodles with chicken and peanuts and both were scrumptious and had great flavor. Definitely worth the splurge if you love authentic Chinese cuisine! Delivery was quick...
