The exterior and the interior are unassuming ad simple. Feels like a family run trattoria without bells and whistles when it comes to decor. Not bad, ugly or unpleasant.
The service is very attentive for the most part. The shorter of the two hosts who served in the room was the most helpful. He seated us and gave us menus, came by several times without being overbearing to make sure we'd know we could ask him if we had any questions.
We ordered 2 appetizers and one second dish so we can speak a lot about all the various dishes served here, but what I can tell you for sure is that they were "clean".
A fresh boiled octopus and a seafood salad were perhaps not the tastiest I've ever had since they were lacking in condiments such as olive oil, salt pepper and other spices which generally would be used on these dishes. But that was a pleasant surprise as they were light and pleasant to eat. Just didn't give you that "wow" factor in flavor. The octopus was simply boiled and served with finely chopped parsley in olive oil. Again it was "clean" and "healthy" by not being rich/heavy. So I guess if you want heavier flavors you may want to get other dishes like the fried calamari which might hit that "flavor" spot :) But then again who knows? perhaps even that will be light? ;P
We got the catch of the day, a variety of fish small and large and a rare kind of lobster that looked like a beige alien that I'd have never had the courage to try... even pescatarians have their limits ;D
We had also a side of mixed salad which was a simple mix of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and something that while looking like a red onion didn't taste like onion at all. This too wasn't seasoned and was very fresh and clean (if you consider clean to be tasty then you're good there too ;D) I did enjoy it quite a bit because the iceberg lettuce (which I love) was super fresh and crunchy
Read moreVisited the restaurant with hubby and a toddler for pizza, as it has been a while since we last visited and remember the pizza was good (we live in Agrigento). Turned out a big mistake. The pizza was ok not bad, but definitely not exceptional (you can get a really good one in another restaurant less than 1km away). First, there was no baby chair provided in the restaurant, not that it affect us that much, but this well, it does count when my toddler (2 years old) was being charged for coperto (service charge) even when he was not eating. Talking about coperto, i believed they have the highest coperto in Agrigento, or probably in Sicily. €2,50 per person including children (i guess all kids including toddlers since my 2 years old was being charged) for coperto is really a rip off here. We NEVER paid so much!!! Charging a high service charge is ok if the restaurant is high end with exceptional services, but not this restaurant sadly. The owner was a bit pushy, and mainly rush things out especially if you are only having pizzas. And really, the food is just so so. So, i would say give this restaurant a skip and head towards lungomare where you will find a better...
Read moreInside the nondescript exterior lies unexpectedly satisfying meal. I can safely recommend to friends
Pro: -Grilled Sarago fish, local catch, was moist and flavored per request in chopped parsley and crushed garlic, accentuating the sweet flesh that evokes red or tai snapper. -Their calamari frittata’s crust was light, squid plump and fresh. Highly recommended. Chocolate lava cake was delicious. Unsure whether it was made in-house -Their house orange liqueur the owner served at the end was delicious -Owner was very friendly and informative -Very clean interior
Con: -Sarago fish was delicious, but 45euro per kg (so, my single serving came up to be 18 euros) seemed a bit steep compared to other dishes. -Unfortunately, they were out of uni (Sea urchin) pasta and lobster. Would be nice to be informed early on when menu was distributed (but that might be my peculiarity stemming from long years in...
