Republic 19 — Restaurant in Alberobello

Everyone makes mistakes, but you can tell apart professionalism from ignorance based on whether they take responsibility for their faults. This place failed. We booked a table on Google maps through The Fork, they offered pizza, hamburger, meat and also poke, which was perfect for a family like ours where everyone prefers something different. After two starters, we ordered one from each category. The pizza arrived after five minutes, then the rest, but my poke was without the chicken I had ordered. I asked the waitress to bring me the grilled chicken and I can add it to my bowl. I got it after two complaints and 40 minutes. Everybody else had already finished eating, when I started. When paying, my husband explained the issue to the manager, but this latter only said: ‘This is the normal cooking time for chicken’. The thing was, that the three stripes of grilled chicken were cold and dry when I finally got them. We paid the whole price and felt ripped off and mocked. Just a simple apology, a tiny discount (2 euro, the price difference between the two types of poke bowls) would have saved face for this gastropub. We chose Republic 19 after reading all the great reviews, but unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite.

We ordered two main courses and two drinks. To be fair, the drinks were really good — refreshing and well-prepared. But the food was a major letdown.

I ordered a bowl with chicken and received just three tiny slices of chicken, a few beans, and the rest was mostly cabbage. It felt more like a side salad than a main course. The second dish — a meat-based main — came without any garnish, potatoes, or even a small salad, just the meat on its own.

When we politely asked the server about the small portions, her response was: “We always serve like that.” Honestly, that’s not acceptable, especially considering the price point and the impression the online...

We landed on Monday in Alberobello, when most of the restaurants are closed as it’s not even peak summer time. We spotted this to be open by chance just at the corner of main square before Trullis area.

Person/ Manager here kindly agreed to make vegetarian pizza adding as many topping as we want on the top of Caravaggio. Big one is called as SCROCCHIARELLE, I also wanted to order Ravioli but he advised us to wait & see size of pizza. When SCROCCHIARELLE, came on the table it was massive and he had added all toppings we asked for- courgette, artichokes, spinach etc. pizza was good, staff is really helpful, kind & friendly. place is modern not traditional Italian pizzeria.
