Romolo al Porto — Restaurant in Anzio

Just imagine the fishermen coming in during the afternoon at Anzio's port. They sell their best pieces to one guy who brings them to his restaurant. There he creates the most amazing dishes you can imagine out of everything nature offers. Use all your fantasy as how good this could be - it will be better. Be it the starter which will catapult you into a state of ecstasy. Or a main dish he creates for you with a fish you pick. Or when you think you can't eat one more bite - the dessert will come and it will be better than all concerns you may have regarding your weight. The wine cellar is excellent. But most of all: Wether you just eat a plate with spaghetti and sea food or a five course menu with the best wine you can get: the quality of the food is always top, the chef takes care of you and the waiters are always ready to fulfill your order. You'll findnin the restaurant locals and fishermen as well as the owner of the yacht which just docks some meters away. We go to Romolo al Porto maybe four times a year, preferably in fall when there are fewer people. So a reservation is highly recommended. Difficile immaginare un posto al mondo che definisca casa più di questo ristorante. Ho avuto infatti l’immensa fortuna di poter venire a mangiare in questo tempio della cucina di mare della mia terra, la meravigliosa Anzio, sin da quando avevo pochi anni, ed anzi la mia famiglia lo frequenta assiduamente da ben tre generazioni. In tutto questo tempo, con le sue evoluzioni e la capacità di leggere i tempi e di innovare e valorizzare in modo straordinario, quasi ossessivo, tutte le incredibili eccellenze del territorio, Romolo al porto e’ e rimane il faro della cucina di mare. Percorsi degustativi di infiniti crudi di pesce locale preparati ad arte con accostamenti che ne esaltano il gusto, primi e secondi di mare con la migliore varietà e qualità della materia prima che lasciano sempre stupiti e persino i dolci sono una gustosa sorpresa tutta da scoprire e assaporare. Ma che Romolo al porto sia una garanzia di professionalità e qualità in grado di stupire e accontentare costantemente tutti da decenni, in ogni condizione e periodo dell’anno, anche i palati più raffinati e attenti, questo si sae lo dimostra il successo sempre crescente che la famiglia Regolanti ha dimostrato nel tempo. Quello che stupisce invece è come sia possibile, anzi addirittura immaginabile, che sedicenti guide gastronomiche famose nel mondo che si considerano autentici giudici del gusto abbiamo ignorato nei tempi recenti non solo questo esempio di eccellenza assoluta del nostro territorio ma l’intera comunità di Anzio. Chi conosce davvero il cibo, la tradizione e la ristorazione sa bene invece come questa località’ rappresenti un un vero esempio di eccellenza del nostro territorio sia per l’antica tradizione della pesca locale che poi per lo straordinario sviluppo di una trazione culinaria tramandata negli anni e interpretata magistralmente dalla meravigliosa comunità di ristoranti che ne tengono saldamente custoditi i segreti. E allora alla faccia di chi fa forse finta di dimenticarsene, venendo a mangiare da Romolo al porto mentre si degusta un viaggio di sapori, colori e sensazioni, guardando il mare e pensando alla storia secolare che la avvolge, viene voglia di fare solo una cosa, chiudere e buttare certe insulse guide culinarie e lasciarsi andare ad un viaggio di colori sapori e...

I had a very bad experience today at Romolo al Porto in Anzio. I ordered entries a first dish and a zuppa fish. we were two people arriving at 13.15 a.m. and I went away at 14.05 eating ONLY the entry, since all the other ordered dishes never arrived. I was really disappointed. The taste of entries plates served were impossible to understood. you cannot recognize what are you eating. After this dishes we were waiting for the main dishes and a waiters arrived bringing the same dishes we already had, there was a lot of confusion and to many people to be served. They never stop in receiving people. After that we wait for other 45 minutes without being served. I step away refusing to stay for longer and paid only for what I ate. Very...
