Caffè Meletti — Restaurant in Ascoli Piceno

Caffe Meletti is a gem in that it holds the original furnishings and ambiance and history from when it opened. It is beautiful and a stand-out on an already beautiful piazza. The issue is service - some servers are well-trained in customer service and are friendly and efficient, while others have an obvious don't-care attitude, give no smiles and are brusque. Sometimes aperitivi are great, other times, soggy. An order of olive all'ascolana (at 10 euro, highest price on the Piazza!) took a half-hour to arrive, they had obviously forgotten the order. Other times, with some servers the items are perfect and come out quickly. They need to better train people, IMO, as this is one of Italy's historic caffes, and should definitely reflect the prices and ambiance. Another complaint is the music. They often play American/English music - in an historic caffe? Talk about ruining the atmosphere! It would be better to play Italian music, preferably soft (like the surroundings) or jazz. No travelers want to hear English rock songs in an Italian historic setting. Come on, be real here. You would never hear that music at Gambrinus, Caffe Greco or Pedrocchi. It kills the overall experience. -So, despite the iffy service, sometimes lukewarm coffee, and bad musical selections, it still remains a must in Ascoli - but management needs to...

Having heard from a family friend that this was the place to eat in Ascoli, we had high hopes. Unfortunately after an initially positive ordering experience and a nice albeit touristy ambience, the food took over 45 minutes to arrive. To add insult to injury, the wine we had ordered was corked (though they did replace this) and one of the pastas was completely wrong! Upon asking a waitress if this was the dish we had ordered she insisted that this was indeed the pasta alla Ascolana, though as you can see in the second picture this was not the pasta alla Ascolana but instead a pasta with tomatoes and basil. Thankfully another waitress came over to ask if everything was ok and did indeed admit that this was not the correct pasta, she then within 5 minutes had served us the correct pasta and apologized for the error in ordering. The issue for us was not the fact that we were given the wrong dish, as this was clearly just a misunderstanding on the waitress' behalf but rather that when we had asked one of the other waiters wether this was the correct dish that they lied to us twice instead of owning up to their mistake and addressing...

This cafe specializes in small snack dishes and coffee and bar drinks. A tourist cafe sure but a very good one. Clean bright and pleasant inside and out. Nice staff too. I had the veggie option which was five times as good as I though it would be. It’s buffet style with an astonishing range of vegetable offerings. More than I could reasonably fit on a plate. Not just any old vegetables either. Every dish was meticulously prepared and presented. I felt a little mean disturbing the symmetry of some of the dishes. My coffee was a cracker too. My companions had small bite dishes but they looked a tad small to me. Overall cost was very modest for the quality of the experience. The young man serving us could not have been more pleasant or efficient. He did a terrific job. This is a very nice place. It is run very well. What they do here, they do very well. We liked it so much, we returned for a second time and loved it...
