we had high expectations, having found this restaurant on the michelin guide, but we did not find it deserving of its suggestion.
between 4, we ordered 2 of the mixed starters of “land and sea”. these were fine but unremarkable - the prawn curry in particular had only 2.5 prawns the size of fingertips in the entire bowl, which was shocking given that this was meant to be two portions.
for mains, we ordered the grilled swordfish, steak, spaghetti al vongole, and truffle ravioli. the vongole was not available so they proposed adding monkfish to the spaghetti instead. the swordfish, completely overcooked and still swimming in water, and the rubbery and watery steak arrived first, after which we had to wait another 5 minutes on the table for the other 2 mains to arrive, by which time the first dishes were cold. the fish accompaniment to the spaghetti was slopped onto the plate with sauce all over the rim. the ravioli was the only decent food left on the table but not worthy of its hefty €30 price tag. with almost everything that arrived to the table, we had to add a lot of salt to bring out any flavour.
the service was friendly but uncoordinated, and plates were constantly removed from the table as we were still eating. wine glasses were filled slowly despite being the only table in the restaurant until 9:30pm (and even then only one other table had been filled).
we did raise an issue with the steak, which was kindly removed from the bill, but all in all we would not...
Read moreCelebrating Valentine's Day at a former Michelin-starred restaurant brought with it the anticipation of a memorable dining experience. While the food was adequate without being exceptional, the decor contributed a quaint yet slightly outdated charm to the evening. Unfortunately, the wine selection fell short of expectations, not quite reaching the level of variety or quality anticipated for such a setting. Despite these aspects, the overall ambiance and the significance of the occasion ensured a pleasant evening. The essence of dining out, particularly on such a special night, often transcends the culinary details, focusing instead on the shared experiences and the atmosphere that, despite its nods to the past, created a unique backdrop for the...
