Ristorante San Marco Canelli — Restaurant in Canelli

We (family of 10 adults) came to this restaurant with high expectations for our final meal in Italy. We had the 60€ menu hoping to experience fine italian cuisine at it's best in a variety (8) of courses (btw the whole table must take the menu otherwise it is not offered, though some substitutions are graciously accepted). The food was well prepared, presentation was superb and the service excellent though one waiter was a bit offish. Tastewise, however, the courses, with one exception, lacked the awesomeness which one should expect from a restaurant of this level. Portions are understandably small given the 8 courses, but a single thin lamb chop with a few carrot cubes and a small wedge of polenta in the main course plate left us feeling a little cheated. The wine list is extensive ( dozen densely packed pages) and rather expensive, but the maitre d' guided us to some more affordable yet excellent choices. Sono stata in questo locale per San Valentino, abbiamo deciso di ordinare il menù alla carta e non fare il menù a tema della serata. Entriamo, una coppia conosce il proprietario e ci passa davanti una coppia nonostante fossimo entrati prima loro, vabbè. Il cameriere ci vede dopo un paio di minuti e ci fa accomodare, (gentilissimo. nulla da dire) ci chiede se vogliamo delle bollicine. Premetto che io ho subito un intervento di chirurgia bariatrica e ho lo stomaco che rispetto a una persona normale ha una capienza del 20% e di conseguenza:

1. Mangio davvero poco
2. NON posso assolutamente bere cose frizzanti. lo declino, a differenza della mia compagna che decide di prenderle. Il cameriere torna e dice che non può vedere il bicchiere vuoto e ne aggiunge un goccio, che io do alla mia compagna in quanto NON posso berlo o rischio di stare davvero male. La proprietaria molto gentilmente ci porta dei calamaretti al sugo, buoni. Credo offerti, boh non lo so, tutto un po’ a caso. Chiediamo il vino, (io non bevo perché sono astemia quindi optiamo per metà bottiglia). Non ce l’avevano, vabbè pazienza. Ce ne portano un’altra che costava ben 10€ in più rispetto a quella ordinata precedentemente. Vabbè. Arriva la cameriera, ordiniamo. Arriva il mio piatto e io mangio quello che riesco, apprezzandolo comunque ma era molto abbondante e di conseguenza non riuscivo a finirlo. La cameriera chiede se andava tutto bene e al nostro "tutto buonissimo, grazie" commenta con "Ma se non hai mangiato niente". Al di là che non devo spiegazioni a nessuno di quanto o cosa mangio anche in condizioni normali, mi sono sentita davvero mortificata e in dovere di dare spiegazioni sulla mia condizione (cosa non molto carina e fuori luogo). Nota dolente: gli agnolotti del plin arrivano stracotti, praticamente lasagne. Nulla da dire sul dolce, davvero eccezionale. Ma arriviamo al momento in cui proprio ho deciso che non sarei mai più tornata. Nel conto viene riportata la voce "aperitivo" x 2 8€ a testa, quindi 16€. Vi ricordate quel vino che io non ho voluto e che mi è stato servito giusto un goccio sotto insistenza del cameriere? 8€. I ragazzi gentilissimi, la ragazza ripeto, mi ha un po’ mortificata, mi sono sentita a disagio tutta la sera. Peccato, sono stata attratta dalla stella michelin ma capisco il motivo per cui non ci sia più. Quegli 8€ più il commento davvero sono stati inopportuni....

I was going to this restaurant with high expectations. It did not live up to them. Excellent presentation. Extensive wine list. Polite staff. Food was good but not spectacular. Tortellini dish was just barely warm. But main thing that shocked me was desert issue. I did not like it and left it almost untouched. When manager saw it he went a long way to understand why I did not eat it. When I said that there was nothing wrong with the desert and it was just my personal preference he lost any concern or interest. You would expect in such high end place they would offer replacement to satisfy the client. Nope, nothing like that. They did not care. Therefore three stars and not coming back or...
