Dr.Jekyll & Mr.Hyde - Bistrot And Speakeasy — Restaurant in Castiglione del Lago

I’m not one to write reviews but our meal at Aldofo’s restaurant and Aldofo himself are worth shouting about. It was pouring with rain and we wanted to grab some food before our flight but none of the restaurants in the Castiglione del Lago were open. We knocked on J&H and Aldofo kindly offered to make us a sandwich. We were blown away by his kindness and warmth, but said we would come back later instead, Adolfo insisted on opening a little earlier to ensure we’d make our flight which was waaaay above and beyond anything we’ve experienced before.

Moving on, we came back for food and the vibe of J&H is cosy and intimate, the food was 10/10 - highly recommend the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli! A lovely end to our trip in Italy.

We can’t wait to come back and will definitely be eating at J&H again!...

Eigentlich wollten wir das Lokal gar nicht betreten, da der Name eher Englische Küche vermuten ließ. Mangels Alternativen sind wir dann doch rein und erlebten einen fantastischen Abend. Das Personal war extremst freundlich, auskunftsbereit und uns wurde mit viel Herz und Hingabe ein wunderschöner Abend bereitet. Gegessen haben wir eine Platte mit gemischtem Aufschnitt vom Schwein und danach jeder ein Nudelgericht. Die unterschiedlichen Spezialitäten vom Schwein waren jede für sich ein Highlight. Es wurde uns Zeit gegeben, diesen Teller komplett zu verzehren, bevor die Nudelgerichte geliefert wurden. Auch dadurch hatte man das Gefühl als Gast willkommen zu sein und nicht nur rasch abgefertigt zu werden, wie es leider anderswo üblich ist. Hinterher haben wir uns auch noch das Konzept des Ladens erklären lassen, das werden wir hier aber nicht verraten, das muss der geneigte Leser bei einem Besuch selber erfragen.

In realtà non volevamo nemmeno entrare nel locale, dato che il nome faceva pensare piuttosto a una cucina inglese. Per mancanza di alternative, siamo entrati e abbiamo trascorso una serata fantastica. Il personale è stato estremamente gentile, disponibile e ci ha regalato, con tanto cuore e dedizione, una splendida serata. Abbiamo mangiato un tagliere di affettati misti di maiale e poi ognuno di noi ha scelto un piatto di pasta. Le diverse specialità di maiale erano ognuna di per sé un punto culminante. Ci è stato dato il tempo di gustare completamente questo piatto prima che arrivassero le portate di pasta. Anche per questo ci siamo sentiti benvenuti come ospiti, e non solo serviti in fretta, come purtroppo accade altrove. Alla fine ci siamo fatti spiegare anche il concetto del locale, ma non lo sveleremo qui: il lettore curioso dovrà scoprirlo di persona...

A Negroni for €10. That is what I’d expect to pay in the centre of Firenze or Roma. Not Castiglione del Lago. We didn’t ask for the menu but the board outside said ‘apertivi €6’. Disappointing. We live in Toscana. We will not return. And would ask our friends to stay away as well.
