This place is definitely worth to visit when in Catania. We ate in several places here, in general the trip was a good experience culinary side, but there are establishments like this one that definitely stand above others. Staff is not only welcoming but also speaks very good English. I am far from demanding it (not being English native myself), but it helps a lot. Also there is multilanguage menu available. Atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is helpful, also no rush, no pressure, one can just enjoy ones time. We were here twice for lunch, not dinner but we were shown to the cellar they open for dinner. This is definitely a selling point of the restaurant. How often you can eat in the ancient cellar that is directly connected to the lava tube with underground river? But the essence of the restaurant is food, and Putia is excelling here. The different seafood spaghettis we ate were all fresh and deep in tastes of nicely combined ingredients. The Low Tide is something I would especially recommend. This, plus fresh salad, good wine (house wine), good drinks and jazz music - basically all you could expect from such a place to relax on vacation time.

Dining at A Putia Dell’Ostello is an experience like no other. This unique restaurant, built over enchanting lava caves, offers more than just a meal—it’s an adventure. I began my evening with a plate of spaghetti alla Norma, which was nothing short of perfection. The pasta was al dente, and the seasoning was spot on, creating a symphony of flavors that delighted my taste buds. Complementing the dish was a glass of Prosecco, crisp and delicious, rounding off the meal beautifully. What truly sets this restaurant apart is the ambiance. I chose to dine in the cave section, where the cool, refreshing air created a comfortable and unique dining atmosphere. After my meal, I explored deeper into the lava caves, marveling at the small stream that runs through them. It was an awe-inspiring experience, adding a magical touch to the evening. The waitstaff were exceptional—accommodating, friendly, and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of my meal was enjoyable. A Putia Dell’Ostello offers a perfect blend of exquisite food, unique ambiance, and excellent service. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a great meal in an extraordinary setting.

I was bitterly disappointed when 2 months ago I was contacted by the venue to tell me that they could no longer seat us in the bottom lava river cave that we had booked ages before. They no longer have any tables in the bottom cave. I was so disappointed that I considered cancelling the booking. However, I discovered (to my surprise) that the biggest draw card of this restaurant is in fact not the awesome lava cave but their food. It was exceptional. We had 3 different meals and all were exceptional. My husband later commented when we exited later and the party in the outside area was "pumping" that maybe he would have preferred an outside table. I was very happy with our cave inside table as it was lovely and cool inside. The service was good by Italian standards. If you are a tourist just relax and enjoy the meal.

À Putia Dell'Ostia was advertised to us by our AirBnB host as "a place we real Catanians go to eat." The vibe was casual and inviting, and we had our fill of delicious food and wine for a great price. For drinks we had a half liter of the house whit which was only €4 and better than an average select wine in the States. After dinner, our host (Sasha) recommended a Sanguinaria digestif made on the island. To die for! For food, we had set a goal of sampling more of the local seafood. The carrello of fresh seafood did the trick! Six delectable dishes served in two courses that made for a shareable sampler platter of what the island has to offer. We followed with a squid ink past that left us completely stuffed. Could not recommend this place more for its excellent service and inclusive vibe!

I had a good time. I went alone late at night around 10pm, they had music playing and it was a great atmosphere with the ruins surrounding it. I ordered a rum, Prosecco and mango cocktail (delicious, with a touch of mint) and water. To eat; melon and parma ham starter that could feed 2 or 3 and a margherita pizza. I’ve chosen 4 stars as I have had much better pizza, it’s wasn’t bad but the base was not my favourite, it was thin and salty. The service was good. I asked for a table outside (in Italian) and they were all reserved. Kindly I was given a spot around the corner, at their new place but is the same kitchen. They were very busy but treated me well and did not keep me waiting. All for €24, IMO that’s good as I had a cocktail too.

Very cool place hidden on the back streets. We thought we made a bad decision after seeing all the cute restaurants on the way and this one looked as a cheap pub from the outside (sorry). But we were surprised by the delicious and varied food. Music was nice, guys were super helpful and attentive, warm and you can smoke inside (the tent). We liked the most the fish starter that we shared at the table, good for four, with six types of dishes super delicious (marinated shrimps with strawberry and mint 👌🤤) , all new for us. The place was almost full at about 9pm on a Wednesday night so I would say it's a popular place. Thanks for a great first dinner in Catania!
