Trattoria La Casalinga — Restaurant in Certaldo

We visited this place on Halloween night at about 8 pm. The whole restaurant was empty and yet we were refused to be seated! The lady at the bar was grumpy and said that we need reservations and that they were completely booked. We were puzzled because we had checked other reviews and there was no mention of requiring reservations. Plus they were empty! We had 2 very hungry but well behaved kids with us and hence requested for a takeout / takeaway. The lady was unsure but then reluctantly agreed. When we asked for a menu she grumpily asked us to go outside and read the menu from the chalkboard. At this point we could not help but wonder if we’re treated this way because of our skin color. It will be very sad if that is true because the entire town of Certaldo was otherwise an extremely welcoming and friendly town. Many locals and business owners in Certaldo Alto became friends with us during our 3 week wonderful stay here. Maybe folks at Casalinga were having a bad night but thought they may want to hear our feedback or provide some...

I randomly went into this after seeing a crowd waiting in line to get inside.. fortunately they had a place for one, but don’t push your luck, better reserve a table if you’re planning to eat here..

I ordered Florentine Steak (1 kg), that I had shared with the couple on the next table! It was a fun experience! The steak was good, but to be honest, not the best I had ever ate.. not even the best in the city.. I want to love it but I’m not sure whether it’s worth a reservation to this restaurant.. anyway the waiter was very friendly and the place was nice.. I’d come again but I’d get something else! a local family run restaurant, good prices for Firenze, with truditional​ Tuscan food. Their sage butter ravioli with a side of white beans (for a bit of protein) was amazing. The ravioli was so thing yet still a bit al-dente. Enjoyed every bite, it was delicate yet full of flavour, so simple and so perfect. That alongside the house wine (chianti), is all you really need in life....
