Antico Leon d'Oro — Restaurant in Cividale del Friuli

We like the whole region very much, but this restaurant is real jewel. Cividale del Friuli is famous for it's peacefull envirement, and lack of tourists, and Antico Leon d'Oro is the crown of this kingdom.

The service is friendly like you are a part of the family, and the garden of the restaurant is chill and cute. This was our 2nd year visiting them, and this time we ate there a launch and a dinner on the same day, and another dinner next day. They are selecting the wines and grappas carefully, and the cherry on top is the good itself. Althought the prices are not the lowest, but trust me, it worth every penny spending there.

The Michelin guide says 1 star to visit a place on the way, 2 stars to go extra miles on your journey to visit a place, and 3 stars to make a journey based on a restaurant. Me and my girlfriend were discussing about buying our home here to be as close as possible to Antico Leon d'Oro. What is that? 4 stars? :)

Volevo davvero tornare ad amare questo posto. Antico Leon D’Oro era una di quelle trattorie dove andavi sul sicuro, con il suo porticato da sogno, il personale accogliente e quel fascino italiano d’altri tempi che non si può inventare. Purtroppo, stavolta il cibo non è stato all’altezza. Neanche lontanamente.

Partiamo da ciò che si salva. Gli ingredienti sono ancora buoni. Si sente che la materia prima è fresca e di qualità. La burrata con il pomodoro cuore di bue era buonissima da sola, cremosa e piena di sapore. Ma servita sopra una fetta di pane talmente vecchio e secco che sembrava cartone. Nel piatto c’era anche un po’ di insalata e cipolla cruda buttata lì senza senso, come se qualcuno l’avesse aggiunta all’ultimo per riempire lo spazio.

Poi sono arrivate le polpette con le patate, e lì è stato proprio il disastro. Le polpette erano così asciutte da risultare quasi farinose, e le patate avevano quel sapore e consistenza di qualcosa riscaldato almeno tre volte. Non ci siamo proprio. A malincuore non sono riuscito neanche a finirle.

L’unico momento piacevole è stato il gelato. Lo servono direttamente al tavolo con un piccolo show che fa scena e strappa un sorriso. Buono, divertente, e ti fa quasi ricordare com’era una volta questo posto.

Il personale resta gentile, il servizio è curato, e quel portico è davvero un angolo da cartolina. Proprio per questo fa ancora più male vedere che la cucina non è più all’altezza. Il cuore del ristorante c’è ancora, ma manca la persona giusta ai fornelli.

Non è solo un pasto deludente. È quell’esperienza che ti lascia un po’ triste, soprattutto se in passato ci sei stato bene. Al momento è tutta apparenza e poca sostanza, ed è...

They had a really nice garden. To bad the food wasn’t the best. The ham and cheese platter was really good but served with plastic between the food and the nice platter. The ”primi” took 30 minutes to get. The tortellini was good but only four pieces. The gnocchi was so and so, see picture. For ”secondi” we had veal that was so and so. Trilogy was good.
