The staff member looked like she's had enough even before we entered the restaurant. The food was 3/5 but ONLY because we were exhausted and really hungry from climbing Vesuvio. If I was in my right mind, I would never choose this place again. The floor is bent, so wherever you sit, you are constantly hanging in one direction. It looks unprofessional with the kitchen only behind the rediculous fat red-and-white chain and bar area on the other side of the facility. Toilet(s) are unusable. There is one, but when we entered, two of them were open(one of them for staff), and the sign that one is for personnel was not visible. I entered the right one, which was without the lid(or anything whatsoever), and there was piss inside as well as all over the outside of the toilet. Miraculously paper was there, but by the looks of everything, I didn't dare to use it. The other person tried entering the other toilet when a guy started yelling and screaming at us. All in all, it was not a good experience, so I do...
Read moreA very hospitable little bar near Ercolano station. We had a very good coffee here, the staff were friendly and accomodating, the atmosphere generally relaxed.
If you read this, you're probably a local (Hi! I was happy to walk around your streets, thanks!) or a tourist. I was the latter, just visiting. For those following in my footsteps: Ercolano is not a fancy, chique neighbourhood. However, the people are welcoming and nice, I felt perfectly safe here with my wife and two kids in tow. Shout-out to the lady behind the bar - Sophie? Sorry I didn't come back for another coffee ;) See you later!
Edit: I disagree with two other reviews by the Van de Wiele brothers. I admit I would have not have chosen to eat here: it's a bar, not a restaurant, but the people were nice and the...
Read moreIf you're American, it can be really tough to find a meal between 5 and 7 in Italy. There are always pizza places around but most have been picked clean. Bistrot de Paris Ercolano's kitchen is fully open at this time! We had just finished visiting the excavations (which are highly recommended) and were famished. All we really expected was a drink and a snack. The hostess was SUPER friendly and invited us in. Lots of delicious flavors of Spritz (we got melon and limocello). Then we were offered full menus. Dozens of types of pizza, eggplant, bruschetta and more. The only downside is if you're not used to it, there are lots of smokers in the city but the hostess sat us in the non smoking area. If you're visiting the ancient city, definitely check...
