We stayed in Fiumicino for the night, and based on our host’s recommendation and the glowing reviews online, we went to La Fraschetta for both lunch and dinner. We arrived a bit too early for dinner and decided to order lunch instead. The meal was disappointing but we nevertheless returned in the evening, hoping for a better experience. Sadly, the experience didn’t live up to the hype.
The place is packed, and the atmosphere is friendly and lively but, frankly, the food was quite mediocre. The fact that it gets so many positive reviews and is so packed suggests to me that it might be catering well to a local pallet, but personally, I don’t see what the fuss is all about.
The pizza was average at best. I’ve had far better in various places around the world. Even my two young daughters struggled to finish theirs. The salad was just a bowl of chopped, not especially fresh, lettuce. No dressing, no additional vegetables. Just a bowl of chopped lettuce. A perfect dish for a rabbit, but one that as a restaurant, I would’ve been embarrassed to serve. Their rice balls had an off-putting taste. The steak was of fairly poor quality, but passable. The skewered meat was best thing I tasted there, but even that was just fine, nothing to write home about. The chicory was inedible. I like chicory, but I could barely eat any of it. We had a few more things which I don’t recall right now, but overall I would say that the food there is mediocre, the service lacking, and I would not recommend this...
Read moresat down tonight, to keep it short, if you’re not a local, don’t go here. not sure where these reviews of people saying they weren’t locals but had a pleasant experience are coming from, but that’s certainly not the case or maybe it was just the people on staff tonight. from the start my family and i could feel the animosity when the menus were thrown on our table with no words, later being confirmed by us not getting greeted or spoken to at all for 20 minutes. when we asked if we could put in our order, suddenly there were 3 tables ahead of us when the table sat before us had just had their order taken. it was my family and i’s last night in italy together, we love to eat local and authentic, and truly this was incredibly disheartening to feel like dirt on the bottom of their shoes. we ended up walking out and were left searching high and low for another option, due to that being pretty much the only restaurant in town open on mondays. again, if you’re not a local, they can tell instantly and won’t serve you. given that i wouldn’t even recommend this town because it is very...
Read moreFirst off, was looking for a good Italian place since it was my last day in Italy, I got the vibe this was not for tourist but for locals only. I have a noticeable handicap. The waiter was going to set us down, with the others in the main room, but the owner, or manager can over in a hurry and had him set us back in the back to hide me from his other customers. (This has never happened to me in all my life) My wife is too nice to say anything, but I tried to make the best of it and ordered plain meatballs, that I could do 10x better (bland no flavor) and I asked the waitress for dessert and the crostata tasted like it was 3 or 4 days old. All I can say, if your a local and used to this food, have at it. If you're a tourist I doubt you will be welcomed especially if your...
