Trattoria da Mario — Restaurant in Genoa

I loved it more for the experience than the food. And the experience is quite a "niche" one too. Don't expect anything like a regular restaurant or trattoria: it's overcrowded, loud and chaotic, you're going to share your table with strangers, the food is down-to-earth and the staff is hasty and not particularly welcoming (in Liguria they have a well-known reputation for a "rough" attitude towards tourists, to put it mildly). If this description scares you, this is definitely not your place. Just stay away, instead of being disappointed and giving it a bad review. I, on the other hand, absolutely love this kind of "bohemian" setup and I've been delighted to share my table with three friendly Croatian sailors in their greasy overalls on their way to Spain, and chat with them about our lives. me and my friend ordered the lobster linguine because the owner strongly recommended it to us even though we wanted to order something else. then we asked if we could share the pasta dish since the menu said the dish was prepared for 2 person and we weren’t that hungry. we asked the server 3 TIMES if we could split the dish and he said “okay 👌” three times and when the dish came it was too much and they claimed they didn’t understand our order. we paid for 4 people’s worth of food with my friend just us two even though we couldn’t finish the meal. they don’t understand english and they say “yes okay” to everything they don’t understand apparently so keep that in mind. also you pay for napkins as well (1,5€ each) ! i wish we knew all this before eating here. just beware because the food isn’t good enough to endure for the...

SCAMMER ALERT ! If you're a tourist they will try to overcharge you ! They made us pay 5€ more (on top of the 1,5€ bread and cutlery fee each). When we asked the waiter to count again (since they didn't give us a bill, just a number on the calculator), he got angry and tried confusing us by adding random numbers on the calculator very fast, so we couldn't keep up, and cutting us off and flipping the menu pages when we wanted to count each meal one by one. He was extremely rude. On top of that the food is very oily and we had to wait ages to have it served. Also the server kept putting random leftovers from other tables on our table while we were having our meals.
