Trattoria I Limoni — Restaurant in Giardini-Naxos

Firstly, the food and service here is excellent - and this is an area where neither are guaranteed. We’ve experienced rude, abrasive waiters nearby but the staff at Limoni were friendly, kind and helpful. The food was excellent although we would have preferred olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper in bottles rather than sachets. Sachets seems downmarket and this restaurant is not downmarket.

The negative here is the road, right next to where you sit. There is constant noise and considerable fumes from a relentless flow of vehicles. When Sicily finally wakes up and realises you can get electric or even hybrid vehicles this will become a far nicer place to eat.

There is nothing the restaurant can do about this (although it occurred to us that they could put up a sign saying “No Hooting! We are eating here, just yards from your car and you hooting won’t make the problem go away! Chill out and enjoy the view!”).

Friendly staff, very average food. The bread was old and chewy. The spaghetti alla vogonle (clams and mussels) despite a nice cooking of the pasta, tasted very bland and the seafood quantity/quality was poor. The swordfish balls and anchovies balls tasted fine, though the mixed salad was just a portion of chopped lettuce. The dessert, the hazelnut and chocolate trufilo, was covered with a sticky and sweet chocolate sauce that tastes nothing like chocolate/cacao, and was also frozen. Terrible food. The "Polpette al Limone" were dry and badly served without even a sauce and it was tasteless, it really seemed like a microwave food. Especially disappointing if you consider the price of 15€ for such a bad dish. the pizza was similarly bad and most probably microwave heated aswell, there were a few indicators for that as well and the pasta was a little bit better but not great either.
