First things first, I’m fully aware of the style of trattorias like Vittoria. It’s a slightly old-school place with a decent menu for a trattoria. The food is fine, but it’s nothing really special.
The main problem is the service. Our maître d’, a bald gentleman with glasses, is probably one of the most unfriendly servers I’ve ever met — and trust me, I’ve seen quite a bit, having been in the catering business for a few decades now.
It’s one thing that there’s a language barrier, since the gentleman was fluent in German and Italian (unfortunately, I don’t speak either), but he didn’t even try to help when I asked a question about the bill.
They present the fish dish as priced per 100g for €7, which is fine. But in the end, the bill said €70, and the gentleman assured me it was exactly 1kg. My problem with that? He had even presented the fish earlier, and it wasn’t close to a 1kg animal — more likely around 800g.
It’s not a massive deal. He could have just apologized and, for example, promised to change their practice — maybe measure the fish in front of customers in the future. But instead, the man brought two fish to the table along with an old-school analogue scale from the last century, as if to test whether I could eyeball the weight of a fish. He was missing the point entirely.
If you sell fish by weight, the final bill must state the exact weight. Otherwise, it’s simply a scam. There’s no such thing as a fish weighing exactly 1kg — it’s usually a bit more or a bit less, but rarely exact. In cases like this, the best thing to do is change your practice so the customer doesn’t feel scammed.
But the worst possible response to a customer is ignorance. And in this case, it was total ignorance. To be fair, I do not tolerate this kind of behavior when it comes to a simple question. I felt embarrassed just for asking — like I was being treated as an idiot.
I understand that this may be the way they operate, but it still feels like a scam. So, all in all, I do not recommend the place at all. It’s a rip-off. Avoid...
Read moreVery good lasagna. But the service is terrible. We asked for a table at least three times, and they always ignored us. It was impossible to place an order because the staff just overlooked us. Then, I didn't notice the cheese on the table and asked if they could bring us some, and the staff nearly threw me out of the restaurant for asking. Very, very unpleasant people... The food is excellent, but it's probably...
