Wow, Just ‘Wow’ Came across this Restaurante by accident, slightly back from tourist area. Clearly well appreciated by local business people, slightly more expensive than the tourist places BUT a world apart in service and Value For Money. Apart from lunchtime ‘specials’ there’s also main QR menu. Very helpful staff/manager able to assist, quality of food was excellent. Starters- crispy cod bites on hummus, Couscous with finely chopped veg, plus gazpacho, both really delicious. 1st/2nd course- black pork with chard & roast potatoes, burriatai filled tortilla with porcini, both absolutely sublime and tasting at their finest. I’m used to excellent taste of Iberian black pork, but this was next level melt-in-mouth. Chard never my favourite but this was very good.

The meal we had at Alfredo was the highlight of a really lovely day out in Grottaglie. I would echo other reviewers by saying that the town itself is such a gem and definitely worth a day trip, and this restaurant ( a chance find for us) was the icing on the cake. We weren't expecting such sophisticated cuisine as from the outside, it looks like any other Italian restaurant, but every single thing we ate was exquisite. Standouts were the tuna tartare, ravioli and pasta with sea urchins... and I still dream about those homemade breads! When the bill arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by how reasonably everything was priced. I can't recommend this place highly enough. If you are within an hour of the place, just go! You won't be disappointed.

Our first night in Pulgia, and we happened upon this gem. The restaurant has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and has many photographs of great tenor, Pavarotti with celebrities. That's a testament to the chefs skills. It was a Tuesday night, the restaurant wasn't busy. The service was excellent, especially as our Italian isn't great. The team more than catered to our needs. We drank Pinot Nero Metodo Classico Cantine Re Dauno (sparkling Rose), just a couple of glasses between us. Starters were aubergine fritters and cous cous both delicious and ample portions. Our main courses were Orecchiette Maritate with homemade ragu and Cacio Cavallo cream and Ricotta Gnocchi and spinach with fresh tomato, aubergine and bufala cheese. The standards of the food and hospitality set the bar high for the rest of our...
