Viola Aeolian Cuisine — Restaurant in Lipari

Wish we’d looked at the reviews before dining here, or taken the many seated customers with no food in front of them as a sign. Waited for 1hr20min+ for our two arancini and pasta dishes to come out and they were underwhelming. When asking what was taking so long, we were told that the chef had trained in a 5* restaurant, everything was made by hand and what we would receive would be exceptional - talk about setting the bar too high! 20 min after asking, we followed up about the starters only for the gentleman serving us to have a domestic in the kitchen, yelling in Italian, probably about what was taking so long to serve us. All said and done, skip this place and try one of the many other restaurants along the main drag in Lipari - or Ristorante Al Pirate, where we had lunch the day before, right on the water in the harbour and everything from beginning to end was...

Waited 90 minutes for food, only to be told the delay was our fault for our table daring to order different meals (despite 3 of the party of 7 ordering the same thing). Apparently, the kitchen can only handle one dish at a time—think of it as fine dining meets Soviet bread line.

When I asked them to discount the €16 the service charge (on a €160 bill) due to the 90min wait, they didn’t apologize, they didn’t compromise—they called the police. Yes, the actual police. For questioning a tip. Somewhere, Gordon Ramsay just fainted.

A really good restaurant with good food, and a patient, very funny and friendly owner. The menu can be translated through QR code to know more about the dishes in case of dietary requirements, which is always a big plus (not done everywhere in the street) The waiting time can be forgiven given the large and diverse menu (meaning you can for sure find something to suit you there) and how good the food is - not counting for how cheap too (definitely worth it) Overall a very good experience for both dining and getting takeaway there !
