Yum Yum Unconventional – disappointing in every way
Yum Yum Unconventional is definitely unconventional—but not in a good way. I travel frequently for work and eat Japanese food at least two or three times a week. This was, by far, the most shocking and disappointing experience I’ve had.
You can’t really call it a restaurant—it’s more like the McDonald’s of sushi. From the outside, it looks sad and uninviting. I had walked past it several times and noticed it was always empty. Now I understand why.
As soon as I walked in, the staff member looked at me almost surprised, as if wondering what I was doing there. I said I wanted to have dinner, and he replied “oh yes, of course,” but the whole interaction felt awkward and unnatural.
When I sat down, I noticed the table was dirty and even the napkin had crumbs on it. I had checked the menu online beforehand and, seeing the high prices, I expected something more refined. Instead, I found myself in a basic, fast-food style place. There’s no paper menu—you have to order through your phone.
I chose a 12-piece uramaki combo to get the best value for money, as I wasn’t very hungry and aimed to stay under €20. I was surprised and disappointed to see that soy sauce and wasabi had to be purchased separately. Charging €0.10 for wasabi seems absurd—it only frustrates customers.
When the food arrived, it wasn’t what I ordered. There were 4 pieces of nigiri included, which I didn’t ask for. They were generously sized, but I didn’t want them. The rest of the order was average in both size and taste—certainly not worth the price.
To make matters worse, everything was served on a camping-style paper tray, which made the whole thing feel cheap. The atmosphere was cold and lifeless. I wouldn’t return.
According to my receipt, I was customer number 11 for the entire day—at closing time. That...
