Il Gabbiano — Restaurant in Menaggio

Terrible service. Came with a party of 8. We requested 2 empty tables by the water. We were told you can’t push the tables together, only the tables not on the water can be pushed together. Not sure why but ok! So we are about to sit down when another group walks up and asks if they can have one of the tables we were waiting for. They say “sure!” And give the table to them. We are not too happy but half our group will sit at another table nearby. Fine. Now they tell us we can’t sit there either. Then one of our group members sits and a chair literally breaks as they sit down. We tell them the chairs are broken and then they asked us to leave. Went here today and after being seated the waitressing staff took 3 attempts to come over and took around 10 minutes after being seated ..no good enough. The male waiter possibly the owner made a fuss when we decided to change tables because of a wasp nest at the outdoor seating area ..thought it was a bit out of the ordinary.. The gelato portions are very small for the touristy price also. Back to the elder male waiter..when paying at the end he questioned why we are paying by card and made a fuss even if a card machine was presented! We paid by card anyway ..so not sure what his intentions were...

Very very rude lady there (the owner maybe)...when we asked to pay by card for two bottles of water she started screaming on the background in Italian, swearing and saying very rude words believing we were not able to understand, but we did understand everything she shouted...They probably have too many tourists to the extent that she forgot her manners and she doesn't give 2 rotten onions on the tourists....In the future I will avoid buying from this fanfaron as there are many other places with good gelatto in Menaggio and...
