Beware, Hotel du Lac Mennagio ("HDLM") shares the exact name as the more highly rated and better located Hotel du Lac Varenna. I believe HDLM uses this same name along with their refund policy, which is no refunds at all, to confuse travelers to book there. Let me first state that I read the no-refund policy on the hotels.com website for HDLM which I was okay with based on mistakenly thinking that I was booking the Varenna hotel. The reservation was for 4 months from now in March of 2025. Upon receipt of the confirmation, and within 5 minutes of making the reservation I contacted both HDLM and hotels.com to cancel based on my mistake. After 2 days I received a response that a cancellation was not possible and if the reservation was cancelled I would lose the entire prepayment. Based on the circumstances I can only conclude the HDLM must be desperate for business based on the name confusion and the pre-payment no refund for any reason, policy, It is reasonable that a request to cancel with a refund within 5 minutes of booking and more than 4 months before the booking date would be...
Read moreThis hotel is overall pretty good.. and I would come back. Just some things to know before you go: if you book to have access to the pool the pictures are deceiving. There are only two day beds by the pool and if you leave your stuff for a brief moment someone will move it and take your bed. Personally I would never touch someone’s stuff but different strokes for different folks I guess. Second, the refrigerator in our room didn’t work at all so we could never get our waters cooled down. Not super horrible, just of note. Third, there was a man working the front desk on 8/23 who was extremely rude. We had used towels for the pool the day prior and set them out on our balcony to reuse… when we went to reuse them they had bugs all over them.. so I went to reception to ask for another and he said no that I could use the bug towel. Luckily the room service gals were in the room at the time and provided us with extra towels. Some perks: there are lots of little restaurants and gelaterias close to the hotel. The hotel also has one of the best views! Lake Como...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel whilst travelling around the lake, upon arrival we were advised that our room was in the annex not the hotel, however this did not disappoint. We had a balcony with barstools overlooking the lake and the rooms although dated were clean and everything we needed for our stop over. Although we did not book a room which allowed access to the hotel pool, the kind and helpful gentleman at reception allowed us access through our stay. We were absolutely blown away with the amazing rooftop infinity pool which overlooked the lake, we sat in the hot tub end of the pool for hours whilst taking in the beautiful views of the lake. There was also day beds and a steam room on the rooftop also.
We did not eat at the hotel so unable to comment on the food. However we did notice that the hotel restaurant was busy throughout breakfast, lunch and dinner.
As we were travelling around the lake, once checked out of our rooms the gentleman behind reception looked after our backpacks for the day whilst we explored Menaggio which was very much...
