A Putia Osteria Siciliana — Restaurant in Messina

We just had a fantastic meal at A Putia Osteria! We were greeted warmly by Stefano, who served us throughout our meal. Stefano speaks four languages fluently (Italian, Spanish, French, and English) and knows what he's doing when it comes to service. He suggested a menu for us. We agreed to most of his suggestions. Those we did not, he accepted graciously with no hard sell. We were hungry, looking for a big meal, and we got it. Sicilian comfort food at its best! We started with a charcuterie plate for the table (forgot to take a photo) along with two huge cocktails for me and my wife. For our meal, our son got spaghetti pomodoro, and my wife and I got a huge plate of grilled meats, accompanied by a bottle of local wine (really local). For dessert, my son got a pistachio cheesecake, and I got a cannolo with a glass of limoncello. Don't come here if you're looking for the deal of the day or for elegant fine dining. We came here as we got off the ferry and fancied a glass of white wine. We asked for 2 glasses of white wine and the gentleman brought us a bottle. He then preceded to bring us some brochette, olives and popcorn. A lot of Italian bars do this and charge a small fee, so no problem! The problem came when we asked for the bill and he said 50 euros…… We only came here for 2 glasses of wine and we walked away 50 euros lighter 🤨It’s been a long time since I have been ripped off and I guess I had become complacent. Learn from my mistake and ask for a drinks menu before you order! Maybe because we are obviously tourists he thought he could take advantage? Great experience! Having arrived on eastern weekend, sunday in messina, almost all restaurants were closed or very (very) expensive. This one was open with moderate prices and typical pastas and pizze. I took a delicious sicilan pasta plate with eggplants, parmiggiano and tomato sauce.
