While staying in Milano, we asked a friendly neighbor at our Airbnb to recommend a good local restaurant—and we’re so glad we did! He suggested Auun, just a 1.3 km walk away. It turned out to be worth every single step!
Though we didn’t have a reservation, the lovely Jenny greeted us warmly and offered each of us a glass of Prosecco to enjoy during a short 10-minute wait. That small gesture set the tone for a fantastic evening.
The menu is a celebration of Italian cuisine, full of tempting classics. We started with octopus salad, eggplant parmigiana, and fresh buffalo mozzarella—all absolutely delicious and paired with their house red wine, which tasted like a grand cru.
For our main course, the four of us shared two pizzas—hands down among the best we’ve had in Italy. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Elisabeth took great care of us throughout the evening, surprising us with complimentary Limoncello and Meloncello to round off the meal.
The best part? The entire feast came to just €27 per person!
We later learned that “Auum” is the sound Italians make when feeding babies - and honestly, we felt just as cared for and satisfied. Mille grazie to the wonderful...

We asked if we could be be moved and he grudgingly took us to a table the same size, set for two and where I was facing a wall. I moved to the table next to it, which was a three and several waiters came rushing over and told us to move. For some reason they didn’t think to seat us in the more open lower level with big windows and street views. I told them I didn’t sit facing a wall. Finally, they grumpily moved us to the lower level. When it came to ordering, the waiter’s demeanour hadn’t changed. My house wine was pretty awful, the green salad was just some iceberg lettuce and tinned sweet corn. The pizza was ok. If, when we arrived, the staff were friendlier, they thought about where they would seat us and if I had a beer and only pizza, my rating may have been higher. My dining companions were not overly impressed with food...
