Bar Nico — Restaurant in Milan

Stunning bar in Milan. We stood along the steel bar, half in the kitchen half in the restaurant, benefitting from the atmosphere of what would normally be two separate areas. The food was simple but elevated and the wine was funky & fun. The girl serving us was really friendly and helpful, she kindly talked us through each wine as we asked naive questions like ‘what does that guy have, what about that pinky one etc?’

A beautiful experience. Carefully curated selection on natural wines, yet non pretentious. A sweet couple and their dog (nico) who run the homey space. Would recommend to anyone who is trying to get out of the oh so tempting tourist traps in the center. It’s worth the short Uber / or bus. 3 stelle di incoraggiamento per un inizio non proprio ottimale: non prendono prenotazioni (cit. la loro pagina Instagram). Vai di persona e chiedi se fanno eccezioni per un compleanno con 15 persone. Ti rispondono che nel weekend è impossibile. Torni il sabato e chiedi di sederti in 4, visto che c’è un tavolo da 6 libero. Ma il tavolo è prenotato. Ti rispondono che lo fanno solo per tante persone o occasioni speciali. ¯(ツ)/¯

A parte questo scivolone, sono riuscito un’altra volta a provare la loro offerta: una bottiglia di un orange catalano e una fetta di panettone con zabaione (non indimenticabile).

La differenza rispetto ai tanti altri wine bar ugualmente validi in zona (Onest, Scintilla, per dirne qualcuno) la fa il locale estremamente curato nel suo stile—che ha comunque un’acustica pessima, visto che si tratta di un ex gommista.

Consiglio: meno Instagram, più empatia con i clienti—che se spendono volentieri 9€ per una fetta di panettone, magari dovresti tenerteli...
