Well, we got here at opening and sadly (and joyously) we were the only people in the restaurant (until later, some folk showed up). Missed the hubbub of the restaurant environment but instead, had amazing service with amazing food. Our appetizer (which is considered prima corso- first course) was fried calamari with zucchini. It was light, perfectly seasoned. We asked for lemon/limes & they also brought a red sauce which was perfect with the calamari (then bread & oven roasted potatoes we ordered on the side). We also had as part of the cover charge, delicious focaccia, crispy & soft at the same time. Our final course, we had grilled fish, swordfish with lightly spicy seasoning & filet of sole, very light & tasty. We truly went all out, had a side of spinach lightly sautéed in butter & oven roasted potatoes. And a bottle of Prosecco & fizzy water. Although we didn’t have dolci (desserts), they looked amazing! And the servers still brought a medley of biscotti, light cookies, so we ordered an espresso with a side of hot milk. Perfect ending. We were starving at the beginning of the meal, delightfully & fully satisfied at the end of the meal. I really enjoyed this meal at Le Cinque Terre. Encore: We did return for dolci / desserts. We had Tiramisu, Mille Fleur & Apple Cake. OMG. Amazing. Well worth the walk to dessert. All you hipsters, millennials, tourists, locals, EVERYONE, this is an amazing jewel in the...
Read moreWe ate here on a Friday evening. It was surprisingly empty but we were very early for dinner in Milan. The restaurant is very pleasant with a nice, understated ambiance. The waiter was extremely nice and very helpful. The owner came out to check on us several times and was very accommodating.
Everything we had was superb.
We started with a Rosemary Focaccia, three smoked fish, and a small plate of raw oysters. The raw oysters could have been shucked better but tasted delightful. The smoked fish was great, the smoke adding a surprising depth to the flavor.
We then had a spaghetti with clams and a shrimp risotto. Both were excellent. Often I find that the clam sauce can be overwhelming and too oily, but this was not. The risotto was creamy with just the right texture.
We than had the salted sea bass for two which came with a huge tureen of home made mayonnaise. We had never had mayonnaise with baked fish before but we were delightfully surprised at how great the combination was.
For dessert we had a chocolate pie and a cream/puff pastry. The chocolate pie was not what I was expecting - it was kind of like a chocolate Asian moon pie. I really enjoyed it, but my wife and daughter were not so impressed. On the other hand they devoured the puff pastry....
Afterwards they brought us a small plate of biscotti and licorice crisps.
The total price was not inexpensive but I felt it was a...
Read moreWe were looking for seafood and Le 5 Terre Ristorante di Pesce came up from our search. Since it’s only 10 minutes walk from our hotel and got high ratings, we decided to give it a try. We were so pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of the food. We ordered the Grilled Prawns, Risotto with prawns and calamari, grilled sole, and oysters, plus a side dish of spinach with evoo and lemon. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. Especially the risotto and the grilled prawns, they were the best that I have ever had, even compared to what I had from much fancy restaurants. The owner’s parents started the restaurant 51 years ago. The father came from Cinque Terre, and the mother from Venice. In their 80s now, they still work everyday. The daughter Kristina runs the business now. She is so warm and friendly. So proud of her family business, she works for Glory, so is the name of her daughter, Gloria. What a sweet story. It added a gem to our...
