Ristorante Damedeo — Restaurant in Modena

We had an excellent meal at Damedeo. Our server, Paola, was very attentive and recommended some great choices. We had the appetizer with the typical fried bread of Modena along with prosciutto, copa, lardo and a great salumi. We ordered the pumpkin tortellini with the salciacia ragù ( surprisingly good!) and the tagliatelle alla bolognese which was just as advertised. Both were delicious. The portions were large and so filling that we had to cancel our meat course. Again, Paola was able to accommodate us. We finished with a dessert of a delicious chocolate flan topped with an amaretti cookie that was literally the icing on the cake for this delicious and very filling meal. We also had a bottle of Nebbiolo from the L’anghe that was perfect with the meal. Service was fast and professional all the way....

Experience was just mediocre, both in food and service. Went there because they have an agreement with the surrounding hotels for a discount, but after discount still feels pricey for the kind of service received; apparently they are seriously understaffed as there was only one waiter for a huge dining room, and that waiter frequently disappeared behind the kitchen door leaving the dining room unattended. As for the food, they don't ask for the cooking point for beef, and bring it almost rare which may be fine for some people but is extremely uncomfortable for others.

I had the "Filetto al pepe rosa" (Beef Tenderloin in Pink Pepper Sauce) which had a fine sauce but was too rare for my taste, I usually order medium or medium-rare but this one was...

We were recommended here by our hotel (Best Western Milano) next door, unaware they were partners. They were claimed to be the best in the area around the block, but after discovering the partnership it raised a red flag.

The food overall was average at best with half of the main plates over-salted or drenched in too much sauce (we were a party of 5 and got 6 plates). Mixed antipasto plate and mixed tortellini were good, avoid the gnocchi and steak.

Service was poor and inattentive. Did not serve main plates together, and was about 30 minutes between antipasti and primi/scondi.

Overall would recommend here if you are tired and living nearby. Otherwise venture 6 minutes to the piazza and try...
