You must visit Osteria di Modena Rossi, with a great view of Palazzo Ducale the food and service here is excellent.
The staff including Valentina, Luca, and the rest were all friendly and patient. Specifically Valentina was patient with my broken Italian and understood our English. Vale expertly guided us through the menu explaining in detail the dishes along with some differences we were unaware of. Such as the difference between tortellini and tortelloni.
Everything from the caprese salad, fresh burrata, exquisite olive oil, sweet balsamic vinegar, to the great wine, and of course the handmade pasta were 10/10 excellent. The tortellini with parmigiano reggiano sauce was so balanced and had me wanting to savor each bite. The tortelloni with guanciale was right up there if not higher up there in terms of flavor. The saltiness of the guanciale mixed with the ricotta cheese filling drizzled with the sweet balsamic vinegar was immaculate.
We cannot wait to eat here again tomorrow! Grazie un milione di volte a tutto lo staff di Osteria de Modena Rossi per l'esperienza.(Translated)

We went back the following day to the service and food being even better then the last. If you have not had gnocco fritta you are missing out. Vale was by far the best waiter we’ve had in Italy. The rest of the staff including the bar staff, kitchen, and host provide a great experience. They wanted to know where we were heading next and provided us with recommendations of food to try and things to see that are often missed by tourists. Grazie mille, non vediamo...
Read moreCannot understand the bad reviews here. I don't even know where to start! Came four times here, but the third time was one of the most incredible "Osteria experiences" in my life! Salad with apples and tuna was genius. Pasta with pumpkin was a taste explosion. It was winter, and I felt so cozy and warm up there. Then we went downstairs to pay, and our just shortly looked at the fridge with the cake. Yet, it was immediately noticed by the waitress who directly offered us a piece to try (for free). I don't need to mention that it was indescribably delicious as well. We felt so well taken care of, that we decided to have the wine that we initially wanted to drink in some other place here. She brought a bottle of Lambrusco and joined us at the table, telling us what was so special about the wine etc. For a second I thought there must have been LSD in my salad or smth, because when I took the first sip of the wine, I could not believe that it is really THAT good. What an absolutely rounding end to a beyond dining. Oh, btw, they gave us some croissant and cake to take away for breakfast next day. Incredible. Thank you so so much! ♡ i marked this place with a heart on my map.
PS: I may have been extraordinarily lucky, and maybe it is not so smart of me to cherish them like that, because now everyone who reads this will have unmeetable expectations :D I just want to say that, if anyone says they're arrogant - they are very much not arrogant, and even if they were, they would...
Read moreWhat a shame. What a train wreck. This restaurant does NOT represent the charm, the beauty and blissful cuisine that comes out of Modena.
Service: As previous customers have noted, the service was perhaps what disappointed and upset me the most. Disorganized. Unresponsive. Inattentive. Emotionally bankrupted. Lack of passion.
Quality of cuisine: To begin, I appreciate the fresh pasta. The texture was nice. The Chef has created a fixed menu. 25 euros. You receive two pastas choice that (out of 4 that are pre selected) and one meat entry (out of 3, that are pre selected), plus a bottle of wine. However, the concepts behind these dishes are ill thought out and lack the understanding of balance of flavors. He combines both pasta choices on one plate. Why?! This isn’t a buffet. Stop being lazy. Plate your dishes with pride.
You work so hard to prepare these pasta dishes only to muddle and drown out their flavors? What a disappointment. The pork dish—served with mashed potatoes with the texture of paste and more sadly, lacked flavor; beans in tomato sauce—you plate rich on rich on rich—your palette is left screaming for some acid to save it from drowning in a chaotic mess. The potatoes served on the side were drowning in oil.
Overall: 50 euros for two. What a waste. The only thing that soothed this experience was the wine. It’s unfortunate to say, that this restaurant lacks the most imperative ingredient in any kitchen. ....
