An absolutely beautiful meal by the water in Moltrasio. If you’re considering where to eat in Moltrasio, go here; you won’t regret it! It deserves its Michelin recommendation.

We travel a lot and we love having local food wherever we go, so we had the Lake Como white fish two ways and local bresaola, housemade meat ravioli with pine-nut sauce and spaghetti amitriciana, and both the wild boar and local lake fish with fried sage and butter (the latter came with tiny butter-caramelized carrots that were among the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life). The food was fresh, homemade and delicious, every single course. We finished with delightful gelato.

Four courses for two people, plus a glass of wine each, came out to under €150 in total. The food is exceptional regardless, but it’s also excellent value for money.

The restaurant is family-run and has been in operation for almost 100 years, since 1932. We are Canadian and speak no Italian at all, only English and French, and the staff were delightfully kind and welcoming regardless; their English is excellent. We are staying nearby and found this place just by walking by… we stopped in around 3:30 pm to make a reservation for 7:30, when they open for dinner. When we came back for dinner, they welcomed us and gave us the best table in the whole place, with a good view of the lake (and the small lake-ferry terminal).

I hope this restaurant is still around in another hundred years. It’s exactly the kind of local gem everyone dreams of finding on their trip to Italy… and now...

We are an older couple. We stayed at the hotel where the restaurant is located and on the first night we approached there with trepidation, given the disappointment of restaurants in other hotels. Fortunately for us, the restaurant is simply excellent. We had two dinners there and everything we ate was excellent - the pasta with cherry tomato sauce, the fish with Mediterranean sauce, the fish with mushrooms, the desserts, everything was simply excellent. Poiché detesto essere presa per i fondelli, aggiorno la mia recensione con uno screenshot di una risposta del proprietario, in cui si dice a chiare lettere che bisogna sedersi al tavolo almeno 10 minuti prima della chiusura. Quindi non raccontate frottole. Siamo arrivati 5 minuti (forse anche 6) prima della chiusura e avete rifiutato di farci sedere al tavolo, nonostante avessimo prenotato e nonostante vi avessimo chiamato avvisando che non riuscivamo a trovare parcheggio. In sede di prenotazione telefonica, serietà e professionalità impongono di comunicare ai vostri clienti che la cucina chiude alle 21.30 e che non si accettano clienti che arrivino dopo le 21.20. Ovviamente, venendo da Milano, avrei rinunciato senza pensarci su due volte.

Strana idea di accoglienza. Prenotiamo per le 21.00, giunti a Moltrasio iniziamo a girare alla ricerca di un parcheggio. I minuti passano, chiamiamo per avere informazioni , un suggerimento su dove parcheggiare (magari hanno un parcheggio dedicato ai clienti?) ma un uomo molto poco affabile ci risponde “che ne so” e ci avvisa in modo sbrigativo che la cucina chiude alle 21.30. Arriviamo a rotta di collo alle 21.25. Una signora all’ingresso ci dice che le dispiace ma il cuoco se ne è gia andato! Ora, arrivo prima delle 21.30? Sei tenuto ad ospitarmi, tenendo conto che ho prenotato e ho chiamato apposta per segnalare che non riuscivo a parcheggiare. La serata non è andata in fumo perché siamo riusciti a trovare un tavolo in un ristorante a pochi passi, di gran lunga migliore come posizione e come accoglienza (ci vuole poco, in ogni caso, per essere migliori de La Veranda! )Dunque, a mai piu e suggerisco di imparare un po’ di bon ton e le regole basilari...
