Disappointing and Not Family-Friendly
We visited Ristorante | Pizzeria | Bar Guido at lunchtime with our small children (1 and 3.5 years old). We originally wanted to have pizza, but since the kitchen was about to close, the waiter offered us ravioli instead. We accepted—but the food arrived after 20 minutes and was cold.
To our surprise, we were charged €17 per plate—even for the children—despite the portions being not only identical to the adults’ but also generally quite small. The total bill came to €92 (including drinks and water), which felt completely unreasonable for what we received.
When I expressed my concerns and asked if this was how they treated their guests, the manager merely offered us a takeaway Margherita pizza. He showed no understanding of the situation and even found it “funny.”
Overall, it was a disappointing experience—especially for families with small children. We won’t be returning.
Response to the owner’s reply:
Thank you for your response. I generally appreciate it when a restaurant responds to criticism – however, your reply contains several incorrect or misleading statements that I would like to address:
The food certainly did not arrive “ten minutes later, hot and fresh.” We waited considerably longer, and by the time the dishes arrived, they were lukewarm to cold.
We were initially about to leave, as the kitchen was about to close. Only at that point did the waiter – who was also the owner – actively offer to “quickly prepare something,” saying there were still some ravioli available. At that moment, we had not yet seen a menu and were still standing at the entrance to the restaurant. There was no mention of portion sizes or prices. The impression was given that something small and suitable could be quickly prepared for two adults and two small children – not that full-priced main courses would be served.
That the full price was also charged for our small children – without any clarification or inquiry – felt inappropriate. At no point was it made clear that only standard portions at full price would be served, even though it was obvious that two small children were at the table. The later claim that it was not known who the food was for is difficult to believe – especially since it was explicitly stated that “something could still be prepared for us.”
The offered Margherita pizza came only after I made it clear that some form of price adjustment was appropriate in this situation. My concern was explicitly about the bill – not about receiving an additional pizza. Only later – after I mentioned that I planned to share my experience publicly – was the offer extended to four pizzas. However, this action had no relation to my actual concern and does not change our criticism of how the situation was handled.
In a later conversation, it was emphasized that the kitchen had been “reopened just for us.” I then asked the obvious question of why no pizza had been offered – but received no clear or understandable answer. Since pizza was our original request, this decision remains inexplicable to us.
The claim that I threatened to speak negatively about the restaurant at the campsite is simply untrue. I merely explained in a factual manner that I intended to share my experience publicly – which should be a normal part of an open feedback culture.
The remark that the situation was “funny” was made during a moment of serious criticism. This did not come across as professional or empathetic – rather as dismissive, arrogant, and uninterested in our actual concern. Unfortunately, this arrogant attitude persisted throughout the entire conversation.
I would have appreciated an open and honest discussion – and a response that took the criticism seriously rather than attempting to reinterpret it after the fact. A simple apology and genuine interest in the feedback would have been...
Read moreOur family of four had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. It is located in the campground, which confused us a bit at first, but the restaurant has a nice atmosphere - more refined than you’d expect in a campground but not stuffy, very relaxed. The food is excellent. They promote their fried seafood and we thought the calamari was delicious. Sardinian staples are also very good. Our favorite part of the meal however was Guido, a welcoming and unassuming host with extensive knowledge of the nuances of Sardinian wines. Sardinia has excellent wines but they do not have a “wine culture” like Tuscany or the Piedmont. It was nice to learn more and appreciate the local wines with Guido. We have not had that experience elsewhere in Sardinia. All in all this restaurant is a top choice...
Read more10/10! If I could rate this higher, I would. We came here during our honeymoon and it was by far our favorite meal. The food was incredible, we got the mussels, pizza, and sea bass. All fantastic. The vibe of the restaurant is casual and has a wonderful authentic Sardinian feel. But the staff is what took it over the top! Our waitress was phenomenal and helped us with the wine pairings. We also got chatting with the owner, Guido. He gave us some nearby recommendations and was so so kind, we couldn’t stop talking about it for the rest of our trip. We will be sure to visit again the next time we’re...
