Ai Piani — Restaurant in Rome

Reservations recommended! My family came here for dinner while visiting Rome for my 50th birthday. We enjoyed our meal. We didn’t have a reservation but they graciously agreed to seat us without one. The restaurant became full very quickly after opening for dinner service.

The restaurant has a huge wine list but we opted for a relatively inexpensive bottle of Pinot Blanc because expensive wines are wasted on me. The wine was suggested by a staff member and it was excellent.

For appetizers we had Mixed Carpaccio and Daily Catch Sea Bass Carpaccio, and both were awesome; the mixed one required the use of fingers.

For the meal, we ordered three pastas, and they were all very good, but we all agreed that the Fresh Crab Pasta was the best.

For desserts we had a Cheese and Honey Pastry and a Tiramisu. Again, both were tasty, but Tiramisu was just amazing - It was made and served table-side in front of our eyes.

The service was good.

Veramente Fantastico Ai Piani è un locale molto bello ed elegante che propone una cucina di pesce "tradizionale" ma in chiave moderna. Il personale è numeroso e molto cortese e disponibile ed inoltre troverete spesso il titolare in sala non solo ad accogliere i suoi ospiti ma anche a supportare i suoi collaboratori. Inoltre, con un locale strapieno, i camerieri sono sempre stati disponibili, cortesi e professionali come è indispensabile in un locale di questo tipo anche quando lavoro al massimo dei giri! Aggiungo ancora, che la Domenica a pranzo l'ambiente è molto rilassato con diverse famiglie con bambini presenti in sala... Questa volta abbiamo voluto dedicarci ai "crudi" e quello che mi ha colpito è che anche di Domenica i crudi sono freschissimi! E questo vuole dire veramente tanto di un ristorante! Freschissimi i crudi di gamberetto, gambero rosso e mazzancolle e favolose le alici marinate con il basilico (purtroppo "solo" 2...). Altrettanto fresco il carpaccio di spigola con capperi e polvere di caffè ed il gustosissimo tonno scottato. Come secondo abbiamo optato per una catalana di astice veramente eccellente! Abbondante e perfettamente condita con le giuste quantità di cipolle e patate oltre alla effettiva presenza di abbondante astice! Ottimi i dolci e ottimo e insolito l'abbinamento proposto con un Tokai passito. Molto ampia la lista dei vini con una incredibile scelta di Champagne e servizio attento e cortese. In sintesi: Ai Piani è un ristorante di alto livello con materia prima strepitosa e proposte rinnovate e "moderne". I prezzi ovviamente sono alti in coerenza con le premesse ma vale sicuramente la pena andarci! Locale dog friendly, ma...

An absolutely amazing seafood restaurant in Rome. During our dinner, I felt like we were the only tourists here, all others being vibrant Romans. The food was extremely well prepared and the wait staff were very helpful and motivated in making our experience spectacular.
