BEST pizza in Rome, hands down. My personal #1 used to be "A Rota" almost tied with "Simonetta" but, damn, I have to crown a new queen: "L' Elementare".
Fried stuff is a bit limited (they only do supplí) but within that realm they have great variety and creativity (most supplí are a variation on Roman or Italian dishes, with very tasty and experimental ingredients and pairings). Also, it's fried to PERFECTION, very crispy and fragrant, and not at all soaked in oil. Light! Same goes for the "fried pizza" starters, fluffy and light like a warm cloud.
And then there's the pizza. It is, to put it mildly, EFFING POETRY. The dough is thin but structured, almost biscuit-like, a crunchy delight. The border crust is next to absent, but what there is is nicely charred. And the toppings... Fresh, richly flavorful, creatively paired. I never ate a creamy "diavola", but their "datte foco" was an amazing variation on the classic hot salami pizza. And the "parmigiana" seriously moved me: thin and soft slices of delicious eggplant, thinner and crispy eggplant-skin chips, stracciatella pugliese, skinned cherry tomatoes, and a base of simple but flavorful tomato sauce. I wanted to cry 🥰
So yeah, I kind of liked the place. Small but cozy and not cramped, albeit a bit noisy. Nice, fast and helpful service (they offered a couple of tips to help us choose, and they were spot on!) 👍
My wife tells me the beer selection was nice too, with a bunch of artisanal drafts.
Only real minus: the bathroom could use more care and...
Dinner with friends and kids… We booked for 7 pm and they accompanied us to the gazebo outside. Heaters were on but at the end of the dinner we started to feel pretty cold. So perhaps you should book inside for the cold season. Staff was welcoming, the menu was comprehensive but not too long (I hate menus that go on for more than a page). We ordered supplis (traditional and courgette)and chips for starter. My son said it was the best suppli ever tasted. Then we had pizza (margherita, datte foco, napoli, cicoria and boscaiola. The pizza was super thin and crunchy as the Pizza Romana should be… the crust was absolutely delicious as the rest of it, also the olive oil on top was fragrant and fruity can’t remember its brand. If you love Pizza alla romana, thin crunchy and easy to digest… this is your place. Food is 5 stars! Ps. No pics sorry, too much to catch up with...
