I walked in, and some old woman just stared at me. I had to say hello and good evening. She tried to indicate she just woke up. I don't care if you just woke up, not saying hello to a customer is rude. The cook came out and helped translate. The old woman became further belligerent. The cook told her to relax. I sat down outside and she started complaining that I should speak Italian. American tourists like myself are spending fortunes on her country, saving it from economic doom and she decides to be rude. Next time welcome your customer. If you just woke up and aren't ready, go and get ready.
I decided to order the hot vegetable mix. It was terrible. The cook said it came with 3 vegetables. He gave me 2 of the same, "broccoli" which is wasn't that, more like over salted spinach. The mushrooms were good though. The cacio e pepe pasta was average. I had a couple of bites, paid and left. The old couple running the place need to retire. I understand dealing with the public is hard, but if you're going to be that way and serve that food, just retire. I should of just left myself. Cook tried his best....
Read moreI have been coming to this place for about as long as I have worked on excavations and research at Ostia (more than 15 years!). Our excavation team used to buy our lunch sandwiches here at least once a week, and I developed a great passion for a particular combination of porchetta and sundried tomatoes in a "rosetta" bread roll. It's an excellent spot to sit and enjoy an aperitivo or plate of pasta (or porchetta sandwich) after a day of visiting the ruins. They also accommodate groups! They did a fabulous job this weekend hosting 15 of us, with a generous antipasto plate and a choice of pasta. This is a place for locals and visitors alike....
Read moreLa Fraschetta Del Borgo is a hidden gem! This charming restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine that will leave you craving for more. The moment you step in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and surrounded by beautiful decorations that will transport you to a bygone era. The menu boasts an impressive array of options, from mouthwatering sandwiches to decadent sweet treats and wood-fired pizzas.
What truly sets La Fraschetta apart is its commitment to quality. The owners are genuinely kind and attentive, making sure every guest feels welcome. We were impressed by their thoughtful gestures, like bringing water for our overheated kids.
The food is simply delicious, with something for everyone. We left feeling relaxed and refreshed, like we'd discovered a local treasure. And yet, it's conveniently located near Ostia Antica's tourist sights. 100% recommended for a truly...
