What a great experience! After a long day touring Rome, my son and I arrived back at our Airbnb apartment when he quickly told me he was hungry. It was 10:30pm, so we looked for something open at least until midnight , and ideally, not a restaurant designed for tourists. We found Taverna Del Vicolo Roma.
We arrived at 10:50 and were greeted warmly in Italian and I knew we were in the right spot since I hard no English among the happy patrons. (Not meant to be disparaging but we were looking for exactly this type of restaurant)
We ordered Cacio e Pepe and amatriciana to start, and they plated both pastas in individual portions so we could share.
We also ordered a 1 kilo (2.2 lb) porterhouse to split, along with sautéed chicory greens and grilled radicchio.
The meal was outstanding! And an incredible value. The pasta was along the best we’ve had in Rome, for just 10 euros each. The steak was brought to the table and presented, then cut and placed on a screaming hot cast iron serving plate where it continued to sizzle. The beef was dry aged in house, served rare, and delicious. This sides were also well prepared.
Probably one of the best spots for a meal of this type in Rome, it’s a neighborhood restaurant, popular with locals, and not the most beautiful spot but that’s more than ok. They have outdoor and indoor seating, service was friendly and professional, and I wholeheartedly recommend...
Read moreWe had just arrived here in Trastevere, tired of expensive, tourist-geared restaurants, as we had just spent 4 nights staying near the colosseum. We were relieved to find this restaurant with very fair prices and very kind staff who were more than happy to explain the menu to us in English. We each had our own pasta, and main meat dish for only 10 euros each, and only a couple euros for wine and a beer. It was refreshing to receive a bill that didn’t include charges for water, or service already included. Our whole bill was about half of what we had been paying near the colosseum. The food was delicious, the restaurant itself was quaint and welcoming, and our waiter checked on us many times to make sure things were going well. As this restaurant is very close to our hotel, we will most certainly be returning. I definitely recommend...
Read moreI went here while on a trip to Italy and words can simply not express how great it was! It was so fantastic we had to return for a second evening. Best food we have had while in Italy, and the best steak we have had outside of New York. First of all we had remarkable service. Everyone was EXTREMELY kind, personable and helpful. The menu was in Italian but our waiter was very gracious and patient as he explained all of our food options and gave us plenty of recommendations. I highly recommend getting the cheese platter with honey and jam. Delicious! The pasta was incredible, and our waiter surprised us with his favorite desert. We loved it. The prices were extremely reasonable. We never felt rushed to leave. Our evenings spent here were a highlight on our trip. Anyone visiting Rome should definitely make it a point to visit this...
