Orecchietteria Banfi — Restaurant in Rome

We went for dinner recently and were really disappointed with our service. It ruined our entire experience at Orecchietteria Banfi despite the good food. We were initially greeted and seated by a friendly woman, but a younger Italian woman with blonde hair appeared to be waiting the tables in the area we were sitting. Never have I experienced such racism and prejudice at a restaurant because we were English speaking. We were ready to order after a few minutes but despite our best efforts to gain the attention of the waitress we were continually ignored for the next 30-45 minutes. She refused to acknowledge us or make eye contact with us as she waited the tables surrounding our own. Eventually we made it known that we were ready to order. My wife's polite "excuse me" what greeted with an aggressive and abrupt "what?". We advised that we were ready to order, but the waitress just walked away and continued to wait the other tables around us and ignore us. The complete lack of eye contact continued. We watched on while other tables received and consumed their meals. Eventually we gave up went to the bar to order our meals. We spoke to the owner who was friendly but unfortunately we were already very upset especially since we had made our best efforts to appear happy and friendly. Local expat here, finding the best restaurants in Italy for you. This one nailed it! Combined with the kind, helpful (English speaking) staff, the food is delicious!! Banfi is a famous Italian actor and we don't know the story of this place but he should be proud of it! The starter of meats and cheeses and burrata with tomatoes was heavenly - fresh and plentiful. The focaccia might be the best I've ever had. 3 of us ordered different pastas while I ordered braciole. The orecchiette is made fresh in house and the sauces were WOW - white ragu, carbonara, and the house speciality. The braciole was delicious, pretty standard. An exceptional restaurant, with very friendly staff that has this family-owned feeling and warmth, Orecchietteria Banfi delivered from top to bottom, from appetizers to dessert.

Visited on 4 different occasions since it was close to my accomodation, tried most of their pasta which was always top notch, waiting time is short and prices are expected for Rome. I can safely say that this gem in Prati deserves your culinary attention.
