If you're not a local resident, I absolutely DO NOT recommend this place!!!
My mom and I are in Rome for a few days. We really wanted to try out a local spot and, enticed by fantastic reviews, we chose this restaurant. We had been exploring in the scorching heat all morning, grabbed a bite on the way, so by 2:00 pm, we just wanted a light meal to taste something local.
The staff doesn't speak English, but that's not a problem - we've eaten at other places where the staff spoke only Italian, and it was very pleasant. The waitress who served us said they only have a standard set menu for 10 euros per person - it includes an appetizer, two main courses, water, and wine - you'd think, "great! wow!" However, when we told her we only wanted one of those menus because we couldn't eat more and didn't want to waste food, that's when the real problem with the waitress began.
We couldn't communicate with her, and she started raising her voice, even yelling - insisting that we couldn't share one menu between the two of us and that it's just 10 euros per person. I tried to explain in broken Italian that it's not about the money; we just don't want to waste food. Period. Eventually, I asked if they could just give us water and salad - she said, "okay." We ended up with two salads and a large bottle of still water (even though we asked for sparkling, but that's a minor detail).
We drank the water and had the pasta salad - nothing exceptional. When I went to pay, the guy at the counter said, "20 euros." I politely asked if 20 euros was still the price, even when we only had salad and water. The same waitress came over and started shouting again in Italian, saying it's the standard menu and 10 euros per person no matter what. I couldn't understand her, so I just stood there looking at her, and in anger, she yelled, "Che?!" (eng.: What?!) Finally, she took out her phone and translated that even if we only eat a part of the standard menu, it's still 10 euros per person. I said, "okay, I understand," and with the help of a translator, I asked if we could have the rest of the menu to take away. I paid and waited with my mom for the takeaway food.
The waitress came to our table and angrily placed two takeaway boxes in front of us and left.
The important thing is, even though we paid the same 20 euros as others, we were treated like second-class clients.
I have never, ever encountered such behavior. My mom and I felt absolutely awful, uncomfortable. The waitress was incredibly rude, literally shouting at me in the middle of the day in the restaurant. Shocking.
I do not recommend it at all, seriously. It was a...
Read moreQuite disappointing experience. The food was ok, very average and kind of annoying that they don’t have printed menus so I had to use my broken Italian to understand when the waitress told us what they have and she basically gave us 4 options. We ended up having the gnocchi and the amatriciana and they were quite large and good enough, but very average overall. They were both served in the same sauce so not much diversity there. The worst part of our meal was definitely the service. The waitresses were rude and visibly annoyed with everyone. They sat us at a table they were just beginning to clean from the previous guests and all they did was remove the plates and glasses and told us we can sit. The waitress just put down new papers on top of the table cloth covered in crumbs so we wiped the table ourselves with our hands. She brought us the beer and water but didn’t give us glasses for both water and beer, and took off. We then saw another guest at the table in front of us ask if they can have another glass for their drink and she said no, each person only gets one glass. It was laughable. It got even more absurd when we finished our meal and wanted to step out on the terrace to finish my drink with a cigarette. The waitress stopped me at the door asking ‘ma dove vai??’ and looking at the glasses thinking I was probably planning on stealing them. I cannot stress enough how stupid this glass situation was. Those were literally IKEA water glasses btw. I’m still laughing. Crazy that it has a high average on here, cannot...
