Poppies Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Rome

I spent over a month in Rome and lived in an apartment near by. So I went to Poppies quite often for breakfast and lunch.

I loved the atmosphere at Poppies, it was so friendly and warm-hearted. Everyone in the family welcomed me and it was always a pleasure to be there. Not only because of the owner family, but also because of the food and the fresh ingredients.

The father is such a nice character and I miss his "buongiorno" every morning. The two daughters are wonderful and very friendly and prepare the food with great enthusiasm. For instanced they thought me the Italian word for cinnamon: cannella. And her brother was also super nice and accommodating. Overall, the family that owns Poppy is a typical Roman family and is very warm and friendly.

The freshly prepared smoothies are a must and the scrambled egg dishes were also the best I had in Rome and by far not the most expensive.

The cramped ambiance can be a bit off-putting, but it's totally worth eating there; I've never seen people queuing outside on the street to get a seat at a breakfast cafe like this.

My sister and I stumbled upon this gem of a café when we visited Rome for two and a half days in June and what can I say? We fell in love with this place and enjoyed the tasty food, amazing ginseng coffee and the sublime service of the lovely owners two mornings in a row. Poppies Coffee Bar has managed to create a place, where the traditional Italian cafe/bar meets a more international/northern European vibe - it shows in the rich amount of dishes, beverages and the all over service. Whether you have a sweet tooth, long for something more salty or like to mix it - Poppies Coffee Bar’s got it all. We really enjoyed coming here and felt so incredibly welcome. Our first morning in Rome led us to this fantastic coffee shop, just a 10-minute walk from our accommodation. It was so good, we ended up returning every single morning of our trip! The food and coffee were absolutely incredible. I can't recommend the pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruit enough – they were, without a doubt, the absolute best. Another standout favorite was their Belgium waffle. Both are by far the best I've had anywhere. And the coffee? Always perfect to start our day. What truly made each visit special was Valerie. She greeted us so warmly every day and provided service that was beyond anyone's expectations. We were even more impressed when we found out on our last morning that she's also the talented chef behind those amazing dishes!
