We went to Pulgarcito for dinner on our first night in Rome. We had the Pupusas (Revueltas and Pollo) and the Pollo Alla Plancha. We also had some Pastelitos De Carne (super crispy and delicious). We had the Empanada a Leche and the Tres Leche for dessert. I tried the local drink the Horchata (non-alcoholic) was very refreshing. We had their tamarindo rum shots pictured here and which is rimmed with a combination of salt, sweet syrup, spices and all sorts of goodness. We went back for seconds. Everything we put in our mouth was delicious. The folks were super welcoming and friendly and seemed like they could communicate in English, Italian and Spanish. All for a very decent price. This was the kinda of non touristy experience we were looking for. We’ll be back for sure. Thank you!

Nestled in the district of Garbatella easily accessible by metro, this Salvadoran gem delighted our senses with a symphony of flavors and unparalleled hospitality. With each bite of the pupusas a comforting and familiar flavour came back to me. The tamal pizque, with its tender, corn-based dough, was a subtle yet satisfying treat. Carne a la plancha arrived sizzling, its smoky, charred exterior giving way to succulent, well-seasoned meat that melted in the mouth. The chicharrón was a crispy, savory indulgence, contrasting beautifully with the sweetness of the nuegados, which provided a delightful end to our meal. The staff's warmth and attentiveness elevated the experience, making us feel right at home. This restaurant is a true haven for lovers of authentic Salvadoran cuisine.

So good we ate here twice in a row! Came across Pulgarcito as it was a 2min walk from our Airbnb in Roma. The shop was a nice lively restaurant in the residential area. Lovely family-owned business. Pupusas were amazing, the plancha and tamales were great as well. The drinks (Horchata and Tamarindo) were INCREDIBLE. Must order. But what we loved most was the hospitality and ambience. First night we needed to take away food but everything was closed, they accommodated us despite the kitchen closing. Second night we saw 2 families also getting the chance to eat despite nearing closing - it really showed the warmth and hospitality of the family. Highly recommended, authentic "home cooked" Salvadorian fare!
