La Tavernaccia da Bruno – A Cozy Culinary Gem in Rome
Tucked away in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, La Tavernaccia da Bruno is a delightful family-run restaurant that delivers an authentic Roman dining experience. Walking in feels just like stepping into a big Italian family's house—you're greeted with smiles all around, and the warm, rustic atmosphere makes you feel instantly at home.
The menu is packed with traditional Roman dishes. The dishes I tasted were the burrata with artichokes and tomato, which is creamy and refreshing, and the chicken liver crostini, a perfect blend of rich flavors on crispy bread. I loved the pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar)— rich, flavorful pasta that was seasoned just right. The rigatoni all'amatriciana had just the right amount of smoky guanciale and tangy tomato sauce. And the suckling pig with potatoes? Absolutely amazing. It's tender, juicy, and has that perfect crispy skin that makes it totally unforgettable.
To finish off, the desserts are a must-try. The chocolate mousse cake is decadently rich and not overly sweet, and the pistachio cake is a creamy delight with a nutty twist.
You'll definitely find a lot of tourists here, and English is broadly spoken, which makes it easy to navigate the menu. And because it's not in an overly touristy area, you avoid that rushed 'fast-food joint' vibe—it's all about enjoying your meal at your own pace.
The service is fantastic—everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like part of the family. They're always ready with a smile, happy to recommend their favorite dishes or help you pick the perfect wine. You can really feel the love and passion they put into everything, from the food to the way they take care of their guests.
Prices are amazingly good, especially considering the top-notch quality and generous portions. You really get incredible value for what you pay. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, La Tavernaccia da Bruno is the place to go for a true Roman experience. It's the kind of spot where you can relax, take your time, and really savor every bite in a cozy, welcoming setting.

Read moreAbsolutely amazing. The wife wanted something special for her birthday and this restaurant was just a ten minute walk from our hotel. They gladly accepted a reservation in the afternoon and we showed up at opening. The pictures here are entirely accurate. Amazing food. We had the sliced cold meats, cheese and fruit salad and a honey-drizzled lard bread. It sounds weird but it's great. The bread with the meats, wow. We split the suckling pig for the main course. It didn't have a face, my wife's fear. It was like crispy duck in pork form. Juicy meat and crispy skin and amazing roasted potatoes. You will use bread to mop up the juices. Dessert was stellar. A kind of Strawberry shortcake and a decadent layered chocolate bit of amazement. Didn't have time for breakfast before our tour the following day and didn't miss it. Concur with the other review, best meal of the trip. And surprisingly, the price was not bad. For the experience I was prepared to pay a lot. Under a hundred euro even with a quality bottle of wine. Probably due to the extremely favorable exchange rate dollar vs euro these days. I wouldn't have felt cheated if it were...
Read moreI asked a young concierge at one of Rome’s best hotels for a recommendation outside the usual haunts and they recommended Bruno.
A metro and train later I’m schleping from roma trastevere station in 30 degree heat past the police station to a busy trattoria. The team were friendly and i was sat at a table with a cross breeze which was most delightful.
The alicette bruschetta was terrific, the wood oven lasagne tasty (my Italian friends had warned me not to order meatballs or lasagne if I wanted to eat like a local but my waiter’s hearty recommendation overruled that) and the wine most pleasant.
Any notions of this being a local joint vanished the moment I sat down and spotted a Korean couple to my left, an American four top next to them and an Asian lady with an American looking man to my right. Other than those tables and I, and the people without reservations who got turned away, everyone else were Italian and more importantly the food is excellent....
