Osteria Simon Boccanegra — Restaurant in Sarzana

Update: We've been here a few times now in our short stay and now consider it our favorite restaurant in Italy. The food is so inventive, true to the region, and the bread continues to change and showcase exceptional skill. This magical restaurant is a popular local spot and was right next to our B&B so it made sense to check it out. Wow! This is some of the best food we've had in Italy. The bread alone is 5 stars. Loved the foccacia variety, homemade ravioli, and wife fell in love with the gnocchi & rabbit sauce. Pate was delicious and beautifully plated. The octopus and fava bean purée with cheese was next level genius. So tender and perfectly balanced. Panna cotta was the perfect ending. Staff were all so great and attentive. A unique place! Located in a small square in the historic centre “piazza calandrini” is Simon Boccanegra . It is a family-run restaurant, inside we found a superbly detailed environment and the cleanliness of the place is exceptional!!! The menu offers a lot of alternatives and the possibility to try typical local dishes; I recommend taking several dishes to taste everything in rotation. The fresh homemade pasta is incredible, but also the pork cheek and focaccia. Sono celiaca e la prima cosa che faccio quando vado in un nuovo posto che non conosco é informarmi sui locali e ristoranti che siano attenti e offrano delle alternative senza glutine Spinta dalle ottime recensioni sabato sera mi sono recata con altre 3 persone (non celiache) nell'Osteria Simon Boccanegra

Ho fatto da subito presente di essere celiaca alla cameriera che ha preso la comanda a cui abbiamo ordinato come antipasto 2 taglieri di salumi e formaggi a cui accompagnare focaccia SOLO senza glutine.

Di conseguenza quando sono arrivati i taglieri con un solo tipo di focaccia a nessuno del tavolo é venuto in mente di dover chiedere che fosse realmente senza glutine (avendo ordinato solo quella ci sembrava scontato); peccato che dopo 5 minuti sia arrivato il cameriere con la focaccia senza glutine.

Da subito mi sono accorta che una bella serata in compagnia si sarebbe trasformata da lì a poco in una serata terribile non solo per me (con crampi notturni annessi) ma anche per i miei amici.

Fatto subito presente l'errore la cosa che più mi ha sconvolto é stata innanzitutto la mancanza di scuse, la mancanza di tatto nell'accertarsi delle mie condizioni, e la mancanza di delicatezza nel voler fare ricadere la colpa sul mio tavolo per non aver chiesto che effettivamente non ci fosse glutine nella focaccia che stavo mangiando (ma se avevo ordinato solo quella , perché avrei dovuto preoccuparmi?).

Quando si vuole apparire come un locale inclusivo attento alle intolleranze e le allergie, bisogna davvero assicurarsi di esserlo. Questo é un tema serio che con serietà deve essere trattato;non esistono velocità nel prendere la comanda o superficialità nel servizio. Mi aspettavo di passare una serata spensierata invece sono tornata a casa con soli dolori di stomaco.
