Osteria del Buchetto — Restaurant in Spello

My wife and I enjoyed every aspect of Osteria del Buchetto and could not recommend it more highly! We ate on the terrace overlooking the Umbrian hills and watching a stunning sunset. Not only was the view beautiful, but so was the setting itself. The restaurant is located at the very top of Spello in a quiet location away from the rest of the city. We listened to the birds sing as the sun set over the hills.

While the view was INCREDIBLE the food was even better! We could not decide on just 2 pastas so ended up ordering three. Each one was more delicious than the next. The pasta was some of the freshest we had in all of Italy as were the sauces they came with. The flavors of each ingredient were distinct and fresh, but paired well enough with each other so they complimented one another and were never overpowering. We savored every bite of each dish!

The service was wonderful. We do not speak italian but the servers made us feel welcome and special non-the-less. We spent over 2 hours eating and drinking wine and never felt rushed at all. It was like watching a private sunset.

We had the Strangozzi e pepe, Strozzapreti, Tagliatelle al Tartufo, and the Tonnarelli Con Paccasassi E Ciascolo. Each was amazing, but the Tonnarelli Con Paccassai was our favorite! It was so different and tasted like nothing we had tried before in a pasta. The Truffles in the Tagliatelle were also so fresh and not overpowering we loved them! And of course, the Cacio e pepe...

Loved this small osteria from the moment we entered. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. Our hostess in Spello made the reservation for us. Massimo greeted us warmly as I stumbled through my very bad Italian. There is no rush here to turn over tables. We enjoyed a lovely meal at a leisurely pace. We started off with a litre of the house red wine. My husband and I both had the lentil soup -- lentils from Lake Trasimeno region. Hot and delicious. Qualità, bontà, gentilezza e simpatia. Arrivati a tarda ora a Spello ci siamo addentrati nei suoi vicoli e quando ci siamo accorti che ormai era già tardi Massimo e il suo staff ci hanno accolto nel loro splendido locale. Complice la calda serata, siamo stati sulla terrazza che offre un panorama incredibile. La cena è di quelle che restano nei ricordi. Abbiamo ordinato senza neanche guardare il menù, cacio e pepe e tagliolini al tartufo, definirli eccellenti è poco. Sopratutto il tartufo utilizzato non era quello scenografico per turisti, anzi ha improfumato l'aria nonostante eravamo all'aperto. Poi una tagliata cotta in maniera perfetta, al sangue come richiesto al momento dell'ordine (sembra scontato ma tanti ristoratori non offrono questa attenzione). Poi si è fatto tardi e diciamo l'orario di chiusura era passato già da un pò. Ringrazio ancora Massimo e il suo personale ( a cui ha chiesto il permesso per far accomodare clienti ritardatari). Eccellenza del territorio, sicuramente tornerò a Spello con qualche scusa anche solo per andare a pranzare ancora Al Buchetto. Arrivando anche ad un orario migliore. Aggiungo anche che il conto è stato una sorpresa per la qualità del servizio offerto nelle località turistiche è difficile trovare ristoratori che ci tengono al loro lavoro piuttosto che spennare i clienti do passaggio.
