What a gem in the heart of Spello! The restaurant is set inside a rustic stone cellar with beautiful arches that immediately catch your eye – it feels like dining inside history. The unique ceramics from Domiziani, which you can also find in their shop just a few steps away, add an extra touch of character and colour to the tables.
The staff could not have been nicer – warm, attentive, and with great recommendations. They suggested a wonderful local wine that paired perfectly with our meal.
The food was absolutely outstanding, each dish somehow better than the last. We started with a sformatino di patate e porcini with Reggiano fondue and black truffle – rich and elegant. Then came the pappardelle al cinghiale, hearty and perfectly balanced. For the main, a grigliata mista that was full of flavour. And to finish, tozzetti with Sagrantino passito, the sweetest ending.
Everything was so delicious that we ordered the same dish for each course rather than share – that says it all! 😂
A truly memorable experience – both for the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommended if...
Read moreIn our experience La Cantina was the best of the 6 other very good places that we ate at in Spello during our one week stay. When we arrived we were lucky to get a table on a Saturday night. We waited for a few minutes, and they made sure we were good while waiting with glasses of Prosecco. The staff was exceptionally friendly, especially the man who I assume was the boss or owner. The atmosphere is exceptional. The food even better. We split our antipasto of caprese, split our primo piatto of a funghi pasta, and split a secondo of an excellent cinguale in a rich wine sauce. For dessert we again split, having a pannacotta. We ordered a bottle of local Sangrantino and finished with cafe, and a limoncello (we weren't driving). A wonderful complete Umbrian meal for 80 euro. This would've cost us considerably more...
Read moreVery disappointing. I tried to book a table using the mobile number on the website. Wouldn’t get no answer. So we went without a reservation.
2 dishes from the menu not available (burata, melanzane parmigiana). Not really a problem unless they tell you only 10mins after you have ordered and that without bringing the menu again or recommending a vegetarian alternative…
The beef carpaccio (which I chose instead of the burata that was out) doesn’t deserve its name: The slices cut way too thick, the meat very chewy, the color of the meat wasn’t dark red, the temperature not ice cold. Low quality. When mentioned to the staff they didn’t bother to offer an apology or react appropriately but just shrugged it off.
The pasta with Ragu al cinghiale was ok. But that’s not enough to justify a listing in the “Osterie...
