Absolutely amazing experience! Archimedes is a culinary gem that surpasses all expectations. With a rich heritage spanning five generations over 80 years, this family-owned establishment is a testament to tradition and excellence. Giovanni, the gracious owner, personally attends to each table, adding a wonderful touch of warmth to the dining experience.

Unlike the majority of the restaurants on the streets of Siracusa that use an electric oven, Archimedes preserves authenticity by its distinguished commitment to the time-honored wood oven method. The staff were very attentive and kind and encourage you to customize your meal and experiment with the delicious food and flavors they have to offer.

We received a tour of the kitchen and restaurant, led by Giovanni, which unveiled the restaurant's truly captivating history, akin to a museum adorned with cherished family memorabilia and famous Sicilian works of art.

While renowned for their exceptional pizzas—the best we had in Sicily—we also fell head over heels for their seafood. A visit to Ortigia/Siracusa would be incomplete without indulging in the culinary delights of Archimedes. Truly a gastronomic journey not...

Excellent lunch and service. On a very hot day we preferred to eat inside in an air-conditioned room. The ambiance of the room was much appreciated (see photo). I very rarely eat pasta in restaurants but, after a bad experience with pizza in Catania, I tried the recommended pasta alla norma. This was excellent - a reminder of how good pasta can be. My favourite Italian dessert of Tiramisu was not available. A chocolate cake was suggested. Although I love chocolate I have had so many poor chocolate sponge cakes I rarely eat them these days. This chocolate cake was like nothing I have had before - intense chocolate taste without being sweet and little, if any, sponge. This more than made up for any non-availability of a good tiramisu. The house red Siracusa wine was very good. The service was impeccable. I was told the restaurant was established in 1954. They know what it takes to have...

Looking for a spot of late lunch (2pm), we gave this a place a go without any foreknowledge of it. Risky but going on a hunch. Guided through the restaurant with scents of the wood fired pizza oven to an outside courtyard, sat down at a nice table in the shade. Quiet, not busy (except 10 cats lying around not causing us or other diners any hassle - they are also look healthy so not mangy strays!).

Waiter was friendly & helpful. We went for the sweet & sour octopus starter (not seen this anywhere else), delicious! Forget the sweet & sour associated with chinese cooking, this is completely different - mellow, citrusy tangy and light. Big portion too!

Then pizzas for the main - the Archimede was excellent! Presume the house speciality - packed with swordfish, mussels & a big shrimp it's an epic looking pizza! Again big portions! It's also good knowing you can box up the pizza if you...

This is a very special place where film director Tornatore and an actor Monica Bellucci had dinner here during their filming period. The indoor vibes are charming, full of paintings and old pictures, the courtyard has lovely lemon trees. Excellent homemade food with fresh fish. I eat here always when I come to Siracusa. I would suggest to try pasta Archimede, Nero di seppia, sword fish alla Siracusana (on the picture) or seafood risotto. Their specialty is the whole fish baked in a salt crust (expect a visual surprise by your table) ;)
