DO NOT EAT HERE UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES PLS READ
I was in Viareggio for a weekend in total - the „La Chiesina“ was the 4th Pizzeria I went to. My expectations were not too high, as I haven‘t heard much good of the place. Nonetheless I found myself in there, first off almost not getting shown a table by the waiters. The one assigned to myself was not giving out any signs in particular that he was either happy with his current work (to no surprise to be blatantly honest) or that he wanted to serve us (eventhough us, the customers are the reason that he‘s not homeless - he looked like he was though.) He messed up our orders that he actually had to console us a total of three times to get them straight and still forgot the whisky I ordered, I gave up on that for the better of us both. The funniest part was that the waiter just put the freaking plates on the table, we had to get them ourselves. But onwards to the food: the waiting time was ridiculously long - 35 mins for the salads - another 30 for the Pizza. Salads were terrible, almost no dressing on them - oh we didn‘t get any bread at all with them either. The Pizza was the only cause that could be considered remotely good - taste was good. Anything else was one of the worst Pizzeria-experiences I‘ve ever had. If I could give this „restaurant“ 0 stars...

If you’re a fan of fresh, flavorful seafood, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warm, salty aroma of the sea—and the promise of a memorable meal.
The moules are a standout starter: perfectly steamed, tender a bit spicy but genuinely tasty 😋
But the real star of the menu is the Carbonara di Mare. This creative twist on the Italian classic is simply divine—al dente pasta coated in a silky sauce enriched with the essence of the sea. Instead of pancetta, it features delicately sautéed seafood—prawns, clams, and perhaps a touch of squid—adding a luxurious brininess that blends perfectly with the creamy egg-based sauce. It’s rich but perfectly balanced, and every bite is pure coastal indulgence.
The ambiance is cozy yet elegant, with a subtle nautical touch, and the staff are knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Whether you’re a seafood connoisseur or just looking for something special and different, this place delivers in every way.
Highly recommended—and don’t skip...

When it came time to pay, we wanted to use cash, but were told they couldn't give change for a 50€, which was quite inconvenient. Even more concerning, we were initially charged 35€ for just one pizza and one bottle of water. The menu listed the pizza at 10€, the water 1,5€ and we were surprised to see an added 5€ “service fee” (2.5€ per person), which was not clearly communicated. When we questioned the bill, they recalculate the total.
The service was not very friendly, and the waitress could not speak even a basic level of English, which made communication difficult.
I strongly recommend double-checking your bill before paying here. In my opinion, it’s best to avoid this place altogether — there are many much better options...
